Would the Beatles' self-titled 1968 album have been stronger as a single-disc work? Was it as fragmented and disjointed as critics then claimed? As Paul McCartney exclaimed in the Anthology documentary, "I mean, it's great, it sold, it's the bloody Beatles White Album! So shut up!" Initially, music critics like the New York Times' Nik Cohn ... (more)

It was a great album. The Beatles simply left some little songs that had no coherence amongst them. Maybe that makes the album to distinguish from "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Or "Magical Mystery Tour" which preceded the white album I think. As far as their unity was concerned, they weren't as close as before, yes;this didn't prevent them though to collaborate again and make such a classic.

The White Album is an album that was oddly assembled, but it works.
I may offend some fans of the Beatles by suggesting this, but Revolution 9 belongs on Ono's Two Virgins album instead, it is in the same style.
I would have suggested What's the New Mary Jane in it's place or maybe Not Guilty, but what's done is done.
Kudos once again to Beatlefan Magazine's Kit O' Toole.

"Not Guilty" Allan is very good, it should have been on "The Beatles". But-like many George's good songs-was rejected by the others. Let's don't forget that "Cold Turkey" had the same fate, it was going to be included on "Abbey Road". To go back to the "White Album", it has many Beatles' classics, so let's "shut up".

I had no idea Greg that Cold Turkey was rejected from Abbey Road, it would have fit very good on it, but not so good as a single.
I agree, the White Album is fine just the way it is, Revolution 9 or not, there's always the skip button.

Their are a few songs on the white album I could do without. But overall its one of their best. It has a little bit of just about every music genre. And only the Beatles could put out an album so eclectic, & still have it be a success.
