This a kid of personal message and question for Joe Nichols.....
HI Joe, though I realize this is going to be very public, this is the only way I knew how to contact you. I've got a kinda strange question for you. I see you were born in Rogers Ark. My question is this. Do you have any Brothers or Uncles by teh name of Stephen, Bobby and even Roger, and one of them was Charles, before he died some 35 yrs ago. And by any remote possibility are you parents or Grandparents named Fern & Hiram? My point to all these questions is this. This morning I herd you talking to Tim Tuttle, Kevin Klein and Jennifer Law on 93Q here in Houston, this morning(8/22/07). I had known you last name for a while, and heard several of your songs, but never thought to ask this question. I grew up in Baytown and my closest and bestest childhood friend and Brother was Charles Nichols. HE and his family lived over in the Lakewood addition of Baytown. His family and mine were members of Grace Methodist Church in Baytown. Nearly every Sunday he'd either come to my house or I'd go spend the day with his.
But about 7th grade, they all up and moved to Arkansas and I never saw of heard form him again. till about 20 yrs later. They had joined the Baptist Church and Charles had become a Gospel singer. I heard he was going to be in Baytown one weekend doing a concert at Garth Rd. Baptist. So I decided to go hear him sing. I wasn't sure if I'd recognize him after 20 years, but I did and after his concert I stood in line to talk to him.
Walked up to him and said HEY CHARLES LONG TIME NO SEE......I'll bet you haven't a clue as to who I am. He stood there a sec and said. No but somehow I feel like I know you or did know you. I told him who I was and reminded him we use to be like brothers. It was a glorious reunion.
HE was going to Bob Jones Univ. in Greenville SC (I think) and had come down to do this concert. We spent all day Sat together catching up on old times and getting reacquainted, and singing. We rekindled our friendship and vowed to always stay in touch. We exchanged addresses,(I was at Stephen F Austin State Uinv. at the time). Anyway that nest week wile back at school I sat down and wrote him a letter telling him how great it was to be reunited him and our friendship.
The letter came back in about a week to 10 days w/ RTS on it and the words DECEASED on it! I was STUNNED And shocked. Called Bob Jones Univ and found out that a couple of days after he had gotten back he and His Brother, either Stephen or Bobby, it's been 35 yrs so I can't remember, we backpacking in the hills close to the Univ and somehow Charles Drown trying to swim across a small stream to get to the other side wher3 his brother already was. Heaven had gotten themselves a great singer, and I had just lost a Brother!
That was the last time I saw herd from him or anyone else in his family. So when I saw you were born in Rogers AR and you last name being Nichols, I felt there must be some connection. Maybe not, but I just thought I'd ask.
Roger Nichols was the oldest of all the Boys, but they have a sister and I can't remember her name, but she was the oldest of all the kids. and I think Stephen was the youngest. Iím guessing he'd be about 50 something by now.
Anyway, Sorry to bore you w/all this, but I just thought I ask and see if there was any connection.
IF by any slim chance there is a connection to all this you and you are part of the same family, I'd like to hear from you. My e-address is email@example.com.
Trust me this is not some sort of a scam or B.S. I'd really like to know
Thanks, Stephen Allen
p.s. back then I went by Don
