in this time of financial uncertainty we should discontinue all foreign aid and let france and all of the other critics take up that responsibility

bring our troops home, secure our own borders, deport the illegals, and get back to being self sufficient here in the usa

worry about our selves with a strong navy and air force

we need to stop being mother teresa to the world, let the pope do that and we are not responsible for orphans and aids and hunger in the third world countrys that have drained our resourses

we can't run our own country never mind someone elses

obumma should be home taking care of business, hosting the clintons and dining on yankee pot roast not scottish salmon

US to offer $1.5 billion in economic assistance? You got to be kidding? Where is OUR economic assistance? People need help right here. We have people losing their jobs, their homes, and the families to drugs and murder. We are using stimulis money for Pork and no essentials. When are we going to start helping the American people in this country, OUR COUNTRY??

This is NOT the change I voted for. This has got to stop.

Why are we sending money to foreign countries when we can't afford to run our own? Why should we be saving the world from itself when we let our own people die of starvation, gang violence, crime, and improper medical coverage on a daily basis? Have our elected officials lost sight of this country or do they not care as long as they fill their pockets with money? George Washington told his cabinet members in his farewell to avoid getting involved in foreign affairs (especially those of Europe at the time) and concern themselves with running this fledging country. Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

Senator Levin is right to question this aid. Pakistan seems very hesitant and/or incapable of defeating these militants.

But stop the short-sighted garbage about only helping people here - if nuclear-armed Pakistan gets taken over by extremists, we will be decidely less safe.

we don't need to give the Pakis that "aid" that we will never get back, nor do we need to keep supporting Israel unilatterally.

Let Pakistan prove that they are willing to exterminate the vermin in the tribal regions, either by doing it themselves or by letting the US do it.

Once proven, then maybe we could consider providing US aid.

Until then, expect to see more Pakistani police stations and marketplaces and sports teams being massacred by the vile scum who will not stop until sharia law is the law of Pakistan.

Pakistan is playing the same game Arafat played... "Give me money or I'll let the IslamiNazis cause trouble for you." Arafat got rich off U.S. aid, Pakistani generals and government officials will line their pockets with U.S. dollars. The problem is, if they stop the radicals, then they will have no more excuse for asking the U.S. for more aid. As long as the radicals are alive and making trouble, Pakistan has their excuse for asking the U.S. for more money.

Ya dimbo. There are no IslamiNazis threatening the U.S. from Israel. Israel does what it is supposed to do with U.S. aid money... hammer the IslamiNazis. The U.S. doesn't have to have 150,000 troops and spend $12 BILLION dollars a month fighting Islaminazis in that part of the Middle East. Israel is the pit bull guarding that area for the U.S. Go stick your head back up your hind end where it belongs.

How come there was hardly any mention of Baitullah Mehsud, the leader of the Pakistani Taliban, saying the an attack on Washington DC is coming "very soon" that will "amaze" the world?

And no mention of the connection between several ISI (Pakistani intelligence) agents and the Taliban?

You Brits didn't like it so well when Hitler was firing his rockets at London. Maybe you do need a taste of Hamas & Hizbollah rockets (sent to them by Iran)to remind you of the joy of rockets blowing up your babies.

This is yet another cockamamie idea from Obama. The militants will just use it as an example of how the Obama administration is further trying to turn the Pakistani government into puppets. Obama is probably going back to his roots of Chicago politics, but he doesn't realize that you can't win a war with bribes, it's not like in Chicago where you can buy your votes. Once again, this just proves how inexperienced Obama is.

You're absolutely correct. The Pakistanis will never want to kill the goose that lays golden eggs. Who knows, maybe the so-called militants might be working together with the Pakistani government to rip us off. The only way for the Pakistani government to fight is when their own survival is at stake. Giving US taxpayers dolllars to them will NOT do anything about it. Once again, Obama proves that he totally incapable of his duty as president of the United States.

Not to mention that the Taliban Tspokesman Zabihullah Mujahid calling US reconciliation offer as "lunatic". This sort of news somehow never made it to the Trib.
