"In Nicaragua, a Xinwei contract to invest as much as $700 million to improve the country's telecom system has so far shown little sign of any spending, leading to skepticism among many residents about Wang's competence to build a canal. "It's all a lie," opposition Nicaraguan congressman Eliseo Nunez said earlier this month."
Good to see SOMEBODY is thinking rationally!

A better choice for the Chinese is to build a canal through the Mexican Isthmus of Tehuantepec from Juchintan de Zaragoza to half-way of the River of Coatzacoalcos and exit at the Port of Coatzacoalcos.
This canal will ease the traffic on the Interstate 10 and the railroad parallel to it which will cut delivery cost of Chinese good to the east coast.
This will also make it easier for them to pump oil from the Cuban coast where they are involved in the extraction.
