Sounds like Jewel is selling out
sounds like the BS that popped out of people's mouths when Dylan went rock. Creative artists often try out different mediums of expression. Check out Alison Krauss, the belle of bluegrass, singing with Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame. Does this mean she will no longer be appearing with Union Station? I don't think so.

Another example is Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits and Emmylou Harris.

Looks like Thong Song” singer Sisqo give country a shot along with Carnie Wilson, Julio Inglesisas JR and even Bobby Brown. It's doubtful that Brown will make the cut. A Ray Charles he ain't. Ray did country in the 60's. I've still got the original vinyl 33 in my collection.

I believe going back Thomas that a piano player named Floyd Crammer played with one of the big city orchesters. Before that you had crossovers like Conway Twitty, Ray Price,Kenny Rogers, Sylvia, Crystal Gayle, and Shania Twain, who has gone back and forth and still sells millions of records.

So, nope, Thomas, as Tom Jones would say, It's Not Unusual!

The best storytellers and songwriters are country now. If you care at all about the lyrics, go country.

She is blonde, maybe she thought she was in Nashville rather than Asheville to get the Country thing going....

I guess you can tell by my avatar I just might agree with that? The musical heritage of these mountains is all about story telling. However, there are still a few song smiths out there that are more rock oriented like Don Henley, Chris Isaak, Ryan Adams, Jackie Greene just to name a few.

Jewel was a one hit wonder, not to be compared with Dylan going electric or anyone else on your list. Her album sales have been non-existent. She had her 15 minutes, slipped into moderate obscurity and now is suddenly going into the mega-billion dollar country music scene. She realized the prospects weren't very good for a solo piano player who looks a lot better than she sings.

And you obviously know so much about her, don't you?

If you did, you'd know she plays GUITAR, not PIANO. Sheesh.

Whether you like her or not, she's definitely had more than one hit.

Who is Jewel? Never heard of her, who's daughter is she? How old is she? Country music, nothing but stories of drinking, adultry, killing, stealing, family desertion, child abandonment, prison, rednecks and lowlifes! Something to really look up to!

I watch the show Big Love on HBO. There is a polygamist in training on it that sang "Happiest Girl" during one of the episodes. I dont know her name but she belted it out.

I have no use for country music. I really dont know much about Jewel but if she stopped here, good on her.

And I am sorry, KISS Country is NOT Asheville, IMO.
