The major Basquiat work is "Brother's Sausage" (1983, acrylic, oil stick, and printed paper collage on canvas and paper on six hinged panels, overall: 48 x 187 3/8 in.), one of several large works made of separate canvases hinged together in 1983, like the more famous "Toussaint L’Overture vs Savonarola". In these works, Basquiat was very interested in William Burroughs' conception of the cut-up, from the use of collage to the painting of disparate images together, and especially in the random arrangement of pannels that make up the work. The paintings were hinged together partly to fit in the elevator on the way out of the artist's Crosby St. loft. Christie's has estimated it will sell for $9,000,000 to $12,000,000. It will be interesting to see what happens.
There are also some major Basquiat drawings, and one of the anatomical screen prints.

Brother's Sausage (estimated and nine to eleven million) failed to sell. However, the two major Basquiat Drawings both sold for significantly beyond their estimates. See http://sites.google.com/site/basquiatbiograph... for details.
