What a guy that J T is but how about giving that money to the local poor that could for sure use it with winter coming very fast. Tanglewood and the BSO will only spend it on themselves with some kind of parties and functions the select group of their upper class. Trust me I worked there for years and see it coming.

Good thing there are some "reach" people still left. Pretty soon oBUMa will finish them off and the only "donations" we will see will be in the form of government giveaways to get the votes. At taxpayers expense, of course.
You like those "poor"- so give YOUR money to them. JT likes BSO and give them HIS money. Besides with global wOrming we there is no need io spend much money during winters. And Tanglewood and the BSO will spend THEIR money the way THEY want, not YOU. That is the total truth! Mind your own business mr. masshole! |

I love you James Taylor!

Maybe he should donate it to abused women shelters
How about animal hospitals, poverty stricken and starving children in Zimbabwe, victims of flood in Indochina and Eskimos grandmothers on the North Pole? |

How do you know he's not? How do you know he doesnt already give to the food banks. Just because this made the news doesnt mean he doesnt also donate to other local causes. Music is the mans life, its what has made him a star, of course he wants to support it. Its his money, let him do what he wants with it. |

his money to the governmemt they know what's best to do with it. After all they look what good they have done for banking, auto, and soon healthcare.

"Singer-songwriter James Taylor will donate his $500,000 in earnings, after expenses, from next week's five-day Taylor festival at Tanglewood to the Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer home."
After expenses? And what might those expenses be? Driving to Tanglewood from Taylor's New Lenox Road residence -- a distance of 7.35 miles? If The Berkshire Eagle is going to run a fawning puff piece like this, then a doesn't the reporter at least have the obligation to ask the obvious questions and indicate what expenses there could possibly be? Especially before leaving readers with the impression that Taylor is giving so generously to the orchestra. Also especially when every year The Eagle seems to run this very same story about Taylor donating to the orchestra. Further, if the seemingly generous Taylor can manage to make such big donations, why can't BSO's managing director Mark Volpe manage to donate something of his nearly $1 million salary? |

Amazing how most of these blogers are critical of JT's giving to the BSO.... Whats wrong w/ people here? Do they not realise that we all as a society benefit from Mr. Taylors generosity. With out the continued success of Tanglewood our local economy as a whole would take an incredible hit. Many of our jobs cater to the people that go to Tanglewood.... Both; directly and in-directly. It's mr & Mrs Taylors money to do as they wish... how anyone can bash them for GIVING it away to Tanglewood is beyond me.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Are you sure James Taylor is actually giving away ANYTHING, and not just agreeing to take a little bit less in payment for what has always been an incredibly generous compensation by BSO for very few appearances. The concept of calling this a 'donation' may arise from Mr. and Mrs. Taylor's desire to try to take advantage of a federal income tax deduction to so-called not-for-profit BSO, and to make it appear to be a tax-deductible contribution rather than merely a cut in pay as a result of the Obama recession. Only Taylor's accountant knows for sure, but for The Eagle to put this out as a gushing portrayal of James Taylor's 'generosity' is a bit over the top and pretty disingenuous. But it's The Eagle, so what else is new? Oh, and look for Clarence Fanto to write yet another obsequious and reverential portrait of the sometime heroin addict of New Lenox Road in a coming Sunday edition. |
Note also, that if this whole 'donation' gambit turns out just to be a 'scheme' for James Taylor to be able to argue to IRS for a tax-deduction instead of simply accounting for it as a pay cut in what has heretofore been an exceedingly generous talent contract (and no doubt part of the evidence presented by JT's accountant to IRS auditors might just be the above article in The Berkshire Eagle), then isn't The Berkshire Eagle itself acting as a willing and pliant collaborator in a possible case of federal income tax evasion?

For what the concert ticket prices are....I would hope he would donate something some where. We chose not to go this year, the lawn tickets were $85.00 just ridiculous!
