Last night hundreds of people at the Colonial Theater were treated to a magical night of great music and wonderful humorous stories, by Arlo Guthrie. Would the Berkshire Eagle mention it on the front page of the online edition? No, they had to put a story about the darling of the pop media, James Taylor, right on front, announcing FUTURE concerts at Tanglewood. Beloved as James Taylor may be, there does exist a thing called overkill.

Arlo often seems to get the short straw by the press, but I wonder if the concert ended too late to be reviewed in today's paper.

You're right, it's probably a little of both; I've seen some reviews the day after, but it might be a case of priorities and available reporters. Just thought the James Taylor prominence was a little suspicious, not that I don't like him as well.

During a phone interview from his nearby home, Taylor said: "It's a terrific feature of my career and my musical life that I have access to performing here, and to connect with the Tanglewood community in a number of ways. I look at it as my core audience, the people who come to see me at Tanglewood. I have a great sense of how fortunate I am to have this connection to the symphony in a quasi-official way, and we wanted to take things to the next step."
"I'll get a chance to do what I've always wanted to do," said Taylor, "to present members of the band for questions and answers, in symposiums and in workshops." "My, My, I, I, My, Me, I, I, We, I, I." Anything you say, James. |

I am going to take advantage of this and rent the house out for $10K on this particular weekend. Thanks JT!

Wonderful - four days of traffic jams instead of just one.

I think this is great! If something like this helps preserve Tanglewood's financial strength then I am all for it.

Remember the good old days when Tanglewood hosted great popular artists like Jacson Browne, Sly and the Family Stone, all great artists of the era. Until the snooty residents of Lenox put the kibash on them because of traffic jams. But they'll suffer traffic jams for James because the snooty, upper class yuppies will sip wine and eat chees while waiting in line! The generation that rebelled against authority and everything else have now turned into the the people they were rebelling against!!!! STAY YOUNG PEOPLE!!!!
|
||||
/ You assume of course that those "snooty, upper class yuppies" who "sip wine and eat cheese while waiting in line" are actually going to have the disposable income next year to be able to afford hanging out at Tanglewood waiting for an egocentric repeat ex-drug-addict to sing. |
||||
I remember I remember BUT you got it wrong. It hand NOTHING to do with snoot. I was there for it all. The problem was that it was TOO much for the town to handle. Neighbors complained about noise. Crowds were too large and strained the resources - sewer etc. Those were the fun times. The idea that people in Lenox are SNOOTY is a bunch of bull - something concocted by people who like to judge people by how much money they make. |
||||
egocentric ex-drug addict? Ha ha - sounds like you are JEALOUS of his paychecks. Why don't you have a sip of wine to take the edge off. Hee HEE hahahahahah |

James Taylor, Arlo Guthrie and Berkshire County all have one thing in common, their best days are behind them.
|
|||
Tell that to Carly. |
||||
The Berkshire's best days were when The Mohicans owned the place. |

James Taylor is great but what about someone new in the BORING BERKSHIRES.

My theory is the best places attract the most people. Show me a place with a growing population, I'll show you a place still improving. Show me a place with a declining population, I'll show you a place that has seen its best days. By that definition, the Berkshires peaked around 1970 or so and it's been downhill since. |

Lucky for you there is a new business venture that is going to bring big name concerts to Waconah park in Pittsfield. Its part of the "Give Pittsfield Away" effort to help out struggling business people. |
