James Carville: If GOP Abandoned Christian Right, 'Their Party Would Crumble'

There are 11 comments on the www.huffingtonpost.com story from May 4, 2009, titled James Carville: If GOP Abandoned Christian Right, 'Their Party Would Crumble'. In it, www.huffingtonpost.com reports that:

"Over the past few decades Republicans have come to rely heavily on, and cater to, the Christian right as a key voting bloc, but they now face a problem we might term diminishing electoral returns.... In the 1950s, about four in five voters were married white Christians. Now only two in five voters are married, white, and Christian."

And yet, even as their numbers dwindle, Christian conservatives still are defining the GOP. Citing data from pollster Alan Abramowitz of Emory University showing that Republican identification among conservative married white Christians increased from 64 percent to 90 percent during the past 30 years, Carville concludes that "there's nowhere to go from 90 percent, and Republicans aren't winning moderate and liberal Christians."

I got out of the GOP, too. But, I don't see the GOP in the hands of Right-Wing Christians, rather RINOs. They're completely different.

a slam-dunk for any party would be policies good for the nation, rather than policies good for a god/book.

trouble is both parties are lost. both are still reacting to narrow sections of their supposed base. both are lost and we're going to suffer for it. are suffering -

I agree. We could correct this by voting out all the "lifers" and all newly compromised pols, and staying informed about what our elected officials are doing, beginning at the state level. The majority of the citizenry can't seem to get up the will to do it, though. How bad do things have to get, before we, as a country wake up?

I am one of those Christians. The Bible says that, "the nation that forgets God shall be turned into hell." Either you or right or you are wrong. Same for me--but I'm holding out for God. I believe Him over people who believe like you. One thing is for sure. Bible prophecy is happening at a staggering rate. Very soon the people against God should be going into a period where they will find out if they were right or wrong. What are you going to do when terrorists come into your land and fight you in your back yards, alleys, and homes? Are you going to say, "Oh, I've been waiting for you. Come on in and sit down a little while and let's talk." Givem' a cup of coffee, too, and while your at it, hide your daughters. These terrorists do children and girls pretty terribly under Sharia Law. Like it or not, the Bible says "the Earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world, and they that dwell therein." All who do not accept Him, hate Him and wish Him unreal still belong to Him--no matter what. This nation has become way too rebellious and full of the spirit of the antichrist. Many of the negative remarks made on this forum are examples of this. Unconfessed sin will not go unpunished, no matter how hard we try to believe otherwise. It's been proven, time and time again. Jesus, I believe, is coming very soon. The Bible says, "If we gain the whole world and lose our soul, what has it profited us?" Choose God and live! You can live to the fullest extent and enjoy it. There's no peace like the peace of God in your heart. It is a peace which surpasses all understanding.

The GOP may be close to being on life-support , but all is not lost. Hardly.

Nearly 60 million voters said no to Barry and the bs. And the opposition to his regime is growing daily (tea parties - lots of disenfranchised Barry voters in attendance , trust me). Yeah , a lot of folks are pissed or leaving the GOP , BUT they wouldn't vote Barry/Democrat even with a pistol to their head.

Every GOP voter just needs to register Independant. Make these clowns work for your vote. Bring some new blood to the forefront , like Bobby Jindal and other younger pols. Also , by simply voting against Barry's bank breaking budget/stimulus plans , some of them will look real good in 2010.
