Others see a simple love story with a hook. Others... well, we won't go there . So which is it? From my perspective it's a love story, albeit an unconventional one that makes some people uncomfortable.

More a story about love, I'd say, or perhaps about the nature of love. In the case of BBM, what they feel is apparently love of the sort that is unique and lasts a lifetime. the film has been sold on the premise that this kind of love should be held on to and cherished no matter what the problems it creates. In reality and much as I love the movie I sometimes wonder subversively if there isnlt a strong element of physical desire linked to the thrill of the forbidden, and whether it's the infrequency of their meetings that keeps Jack and Ennis fascinated with each other. Does love in close proximity ever last at that intense level? Not in my experience...

He does not say "Jack Twist, I swear", he says "Jack, I swear" , while crying into those shirts, you don't call your husbands and lovers by first and last name at a time.

I agree with you...After reading the short story and seeing the film twice and all the overwhelming feelings of Love that are described and shown, I finally managed to collect my thoughts and more calmy to think the story over...What makes it so special and intense about this Love story, besides all the social and moral issues it raises, is undoubtefully the strength it delivers through a broken pace thus reinforcing and renewing the Love that keeps growing from frustration and always more expectations!

It took a true masterpiece to get this Bush supporter (yes, still) to actually part with a few bucks in my pocket to go see a Hollywood film. I have been boycotting the crap from that town now for nearly twenty years and will continue. Brokeback was my movie. It never really pushed any social agenda or used the over used word "gay". Having seen the movie nearly thirty times and studying it quite extensively, I wonder if I might actually hold the national record for seeing it so many times....imagine that...a record like this being held by a true, continueing supporter of the Republicans!

I am gay and vote Republican. I like Bush but I also became obsessed with BBM as many people did. It has nothing to do with politics.

Even though it took alot of re-looks it was clear that in the concluding scene, Ennis said: "Jack, I swear". However, he (Ennis) also mumbled something (2 or 3 words, I think) during the pair's final conflict along side the Lake. After Jack say's "....I hope you don't know the rest..", Ennis turns away and mumbles something in reply. Any guesses?
