Jack Nicholson 's Joker was a blast. Heath Ledger 's Joker is as dark and anarchic a figure as Randle McMurphy in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," the role that brought Nicholson his first Academy Award.

Why does the Courant refer to Heath Ledger's death as an "accidental drug overdose? This wasn't just some accident with aspirin. The coroner's report states the fact that Ledger's death resulted from "the abuse of prescription medications". That's a fact that should not be sugar coated.

He is a junkie but I think all accidental means is that he did not take the pills as a means of suicide.

his death was accidental...as heath ledger played every part of every movie he was in he based his life on what he was playing he made himsef actually be in reall life what he was in the movie...He didn't intend to overdose the daranged character heath played he based his life on so that he could be the best that he could be for this film....Yes it is a little difficult to realize since all of the actors are overdosing these days but heath ledger didn't do it for the fame of what he would be after he done it...he was in a bad depressive state with what he was playing in batman and i think he would have been diffrent if he played "al pachino" he acts...he doesn't become the character he acts as the character...Heath Ledger was the character not just playing him..........RIP Heath Ledger.....

He was taking painkillers, sleeping pills and anti-anxiety drugs. It is doubtful that he ever considered the fact that the combination of these different drugs could kill him. Most people do not think about it- they expect their doctor(s) to do that for them. That is very far removed from a junkie. To blame his role in the movie for his death also makes no sense. It was accidental not intentional. Anyway, all of this is missing the point that he was very talented.

Wow.... if you think Heath Ledger is a junkie, you clearly have NO IDEA what a junkie really is.

You don't have a clue what a junkie really is.
Being a junkie is a hardcore life, and a full-time job. Believe me, Heath may have been a frequent drug user, but he was NOT a junkie.

It's still really sad that he gave one of the best performances ever and then didn't live to hear the endless heaps of praise his performance received.

It makes me think of those painters who only became famous after they died. It would have been nice if they could have received some of those accolades while they were still alive.

Heath Ledger's frequent recreational drug use in combination with prescription drugs; unfortunately, impaired his judgment. If he was rational or coherent at the time of his prescription drug usage, he would not have overdosed in the first instance. Clearly he was troubled and add to that Class A drugs with a further dose of prescription drugs - a lethal combination, which resulted in his untimely death.

A very talented actor.
