I think Gendron is a little off base in reference to Beam being, "...better served when keying in on the detailed imagery and sincere emotion than leading a band too eager to indulge in second-tier psychedelia and kitchen-sink instrumentation." First of all, the ignorant scribe obviously did not do his diligent research on the music of Iron and Wine, or if in fact he did, he apparently has a different opinion of what "psychedelia" (in reference to music) is. The music that Beam performed with the band was exactly the style of backwoods americana folk that he is known for. To infer that Beam was somehow out of his element is purely the unqualified opinion of some random writer. Most reasonably knowledgeable individuals in the vast world of music would probably not conclude that the music played by Beam and his supporting mates was "second-tier psychedelia." It wasn't even first-tier psychedelia:(see The Flaming Lips or Radio Head). No, No it was simply the music to be expected at AN IRON AND WINE SHOW. Hay writer or whatever you chose to label yourself, who are you to judge what style of music Sam Beam chooses to play at one of HIS concerts?
