Checking the paper from the middle of our country, I am dismayed to read of Nina's passing.
It has been soooo many years since she warmly welcomed me into her home and to her table where I would enjoy some of the most wonderful meals of my life surrounded by her family. It was from Nina that I learned to cook bacon into my tomato sauces. At her bountiful table, I sampled the most amazing antipasto and salads...and everafter, salad, in my private salad thoughts became "Insalata." While my own family had their roots in CalifornItalian culture, Mrs. Pavioni painted a rich stroke of Native Italy onto my heart where it has remained. I did not know her well but have always held dear the time in my life when she was new and precious family to me. The last time we spoke she was searching for a certain pie dough implement and I was going to procure several for her to share with her friends. Always, she was good to me. Rest Well, Nina Pavioni, and may God bless and keep your children.
