Latinos are afraid that English speakers WILL CHOOSE to learn a language - something OTHER than Spanish.....Chinese, Arabic, or any of the eastern Indian languages.....once again, latinos will be left in the dust, just as they've been for centuries.

Obama spinning his way out of his remarks by essentially lying about their context. He then contradicted repeated assertions during the campaign that he spoke Spanish (he did an ad in Spanish during the primaries). He’s flip-flopped on his own bilingual status and called himself an embarrassment as a defense.

learn, anything, not just lanuages, but it seems to me if other folks in this world want to become citizens of the U.S.A., which, is our Country, not their's, until citizenship is established,
they should be made to speak ENGLISH. As you know the USA is an English speaking Country, and CITIZENS speak ENGLISH. Why has the citizens of the USA HAVE to speak their language?

My sister learned 6 languages in a texas high and university. I never learned english in french schools. the majority dont retain it. language is funny thing use it or loose it. I learned to speak english in school here in the states. No one gave me a french teacher and that was just fine. Yes learn a language for cultural reasons, but let us face it english is learned in other countries because business needs one universal language, not because other countries are smarter. quit cutting the states down obama, your only helping negative views other countries may have of us.

exactly regarding above comments second language is required and definately available in public schools. So basically obama is judging us for not using it to his liking. Yes you could maybe ask that children pick it up at a younger age,but then what language? Should be a choice not an obligation. Problem is spanish speaking aliens illegal or not are not made to learn english because everything is given to them in spanish,(at our cost may I add, trust me you pay for those spanish translation in schools and on money machines etc) Now thats a real problem economically and socially.

CORRECT.Spanish is a corruption of Roman Latin vulgates.Roman soldiers conquered the Iberian Peninsula.

English is GERMANIC in structure;Anglos and Saxons were Germanic people.Norman-French in some verb congugation.Greek and Latin in maths and sciences.

Why can't they just learn English. I think the coddling them with the press one for Spanish will only make it easier for them not to learn our language. They not only need to learn English, but they need to get legal and pay thier own way.
