I think this article is very interesting - not so much as those of bearded Mexican women - but still I think it worths commenting.
It is difficult to know what exactly happens in the mind of Chinese doing this investmentst that western interests want to label as foolish.
On the one side, I agree with the Chinese that they should not heed western rating agencies in evaluating their projects. The perfect example was precisely Argentina in 2001, put as "examplar" until the shacky structure collapsed.
Maybe the Chinese want to gain a combination of economic - diplomatic overseas influence by those investments.
However, I believe that those projects SHOULD have still have a reasonable expected return. Because if not, they at the and will lose the money and in the long run will not have the other benefits either.
Investments have a basic logic that should not be overlooked.
