Conservatism After Christianity

Conservatism After Christianity

There are 205 comments on the The New York Times story from Sep 15, 2018, titled Conservatism After Christianity. In it, The New York Times reports that:

One of the many paradoxes of the Trump era is that our unusual president couldn't have been elected, and couldn't survive politically today, without the support of religious conservatives a but at the same time his ascent was intimately connected to the secularization of conservatism, and his style gives us a taste of what to expect from a post-religious right. The second point was clear during the Republican primaries, when the most reliable churchgoers tended to prefer Ted Cruz but the more secular part of the party was more Trumpist.

I believe a premise is that "religious" conservatives do or would or did vote along any recognizable moral or scriptural or Gospel line, and therefore should have experienced some hesitation in supporting a politician like Ill Duce Trump. And it's always been "post Christian," or more accurately, "cafeteria Christian."

So the fundie hypocrisy is again laid bare...laid bare being a most apt phrase regarding the NDA-indulging individual in question.

Do you know there is a Bible Study in the White House? First time in many years the Bible was anything but a decoration piece, unopened, on a hall table. Do you know only God can forgive your sins? Humans don't count. They cannot forgive one and other. So it isn't my place to forgive The Christian President, or anyone else, nor is it yours. As long as he is naming people to the Supreme court that will rule from the Constitution, as long as he is creating policies that create jobs, give us a roaring economy, reduce ISIS, deport illegal aliens, get rid of MS13 gangbangers the Democrats protected, I could care less what else he is doing.

I don't think right wingers who live spreading hate and lies against various minorities will be forgiven. They've not realized they're completely violating the golden rule, for starters, let alone asked for forgiveness.

You're an hysteric and serial, bald faced liar...which makes you a "sinner." dWi Bush's White House did this, too, for one.(Although unlike this crew dWi Bush made public efforts to prevent the demonizing of islam.)

The illegality will arise when some White House employee wants a Koran or Torah or Adler book study group in the White House and faces resistance.

And how fitting this hypocritical jeesus mas ter b tion by Cabinet level mullah-bigots would take place under the most irreligious, NDA preaching President, Ill Duce Trump.

Just because you repeat the same lies over and over will never make them true. Calling the draft dodger in chief a "Christian" is a stretch at best. As for you you are obviously one of the fake "Christians' like most of the trumptards on here. Your posts about Puerto Rico are evidence of this. Your posts drip with hatred and disdain for your fellow citizens who disagree with your nightmarish worldview. You people make me want to puke!

You have no idea what make a person a Christian. I doubt you have ever been inside a church. No Christian would take your definition of a Christian seriously. I could care less what you think about anything, but if you are going to throw the word Christian around you should at least know the definition of one.

No one is insulting Christianity. To describe Donald Trump as a Christian would be the ultimate insult to Christianity.

We're talking about the sick, racist, theocratic subset of talibangelicals within Christianity, so you may double cry yourself to sleep over it tonight.

You refuse to grasp the concept of "subset," cretin. Criticizing a person who claims to be a Christian or a group of persons claiming to be Christians is not attacking Christianity.

Unless the theocratic evilgelicals begin to comprise the bulk of all Christians. They do not now.

You have to address the racist right wing base as though it has a (poor quality) third grade education, such is it's ignorance, lying and victimhood over dramatizing.

I see Trump supporters who dare to claim they are Christians. True Christianity is everything Trump is not,

President Trump is the first Christian President since Harry Truman was in the White House. They all tried to go to Church on Easter, and Christmas, even the Clintons, but they just did it for show. Harry, and Bess went to church to pray for America in war. They were wonderful examples for the American people.

Its generally known that Christianity was the source of thought on freedom. that is, Christianity teaches that men and women derive a natural right to freedom from God. And our Founders, who were mostly religious men, wrote our Founding Document to insure that freedom. Our Founders knew that government control of the people, by whatever form, would be anti-freedom. Now, we know that the Democratic Party has for decades been doing its best to remove those freedoms. Trump is a big step back to the day when Democrats had less success at putting the populace in the state of slavery to a central planner.

What a novel point of view! So a true Christian is someone who preaches non-violence, who cares about the needy, who is kind and compassionate.
Next thing you know you'll say Christians see past such pettiness as bigotry and racism. Be still my heart!

Then who are all these people on Topix who proclaim they are Christian while possessing none of the above qualities?
