And you wonder why healthcare is so expensive in the US? And you blame it all on Bush? These docs tried to help Mr Ritter who had a very unfortunate and catastrophic tearing of his aorta.
Suing the docs even if they are not-guilty = medical malpractice insurance lawyers have to fight off huge claims = settlements like the one seen above = higher rates for doctors = higher rates charged by doctors = insurance co's charged higher = you pay higher insurance rates & copays.

This is the best news I've seen in a while. Sanity prevails.

People need to be responsible for their own care. Unfortunatly, Mr. Ritter did not follow up with other physicians as directed. Why would anyone want to be a doctor or nurse when you live with the threat that someone can sue you for ANYTHING? Medical professionals don't get paid enough to live with that. Talk about stressful jobs.

I'm quite shocked. Pleased, but shocked.

Nothing like blaming everyone else for your own problems. You want to know why we are FLYING towards a disastorous socialist healthcare system?
Because people like this sue the crap out of everyone!! Someone's got to cover the costs - and it just drives up insurance like there is no tomorrow. It's a shame that such controversy was created out of nothing. Ritter didn't do as his doctor directed - and he died because of it. What a waste, what an absolute waste of time, money, and energy. I hope his ex-wife goes away broke forever. She deserves it. |

Doctors PRACTICE medicine. They do not have magical powers. It's unfortunate that John Ritter had an aortic dissection, but it's not the doctors fault that he died.

She is still suing the hospital for 65 million. They offered her 8 million she wanted more.
Pity after the lawyers are done she wil get much less. |

What! No free cash for the family?

Anytime you read about persons dying of complications from surgery, translate that to mean doctor or hospital error.

I dont know why he would not listen to Dr.Roper or Dr. Furly

She should be satisfied with the 14 million she's already received in settlements and run along. However, she'll have to out run her attorneys looking for their fees.

Yup, that pretty much hits it right on the head. And the $67M she was after tends to make me think this was not so much related to grief as it was to gold digging. |

The Jury saw through the BS of the suit.

How could she live with herself knowing she was trying to rape the healthcare system of so much money that could go towards the health and well being of the living in this country? And 14 million wasn't enough? I would be embarrased to sue for what my "dead husband could have earned if he hadn't died." It was his time and respect that. The doctors are not God. But God forbid they don't act like they are, they better pay up! I LOVED John Ritter. And I still do. His wife though ... uh ... not so much.
