Difference still exists

I am a human being, and I happen to be white. I grew up in the Adirondacks with nary a black kid in my world to give me an idea of the black experience.

In case Mr. Bedell didn't notice 'To Kill A Mockingbird'- a truly great novel by the way - is set in the 1930s. That was seventy years ago - things have changed a bit. In fact they've changed a whole lot. But Black Rage just keeps building no matter how much improvement there is. Maybe they've got the problem?

I agree totally. While there is still and probably always will be some people who hold grudges because of "differences" the majority of the problem is the action/reaction to the rage, and victimhood so many have embraced as a means of leveraging themselves in society. Case in point, MANY YEAR AGO...back in the early eighties..when affirmative action was in full swing a young woman worked with me and was constantly bemoaning how MEN held her back. Part of the programs where we worked were taking WOMEN AND MINORITIES and FAST TRACKING them into supervisory and managerial positions. When I asked her why she didn't sign up for it her response was "It can't be done MEN hold me back"....The same is true for MOST other minorities in this country who "have chips on their shoulder" as with those who carry resentment and anger...it automatically garners a knee jerk reacition that appears to be negative (which is NOT a response to their issue whether it be about being black or female or gay or Christian or whathave you) but about the SOCIATAL and SITUATIONAL hostage taking that occurs. Then then take this reaction and twist it into a negative and are in effect using the EFFECT to justify the cause - the cause MOSTLY being their angry and disruptive and non assimilative attitude.....When ever I encouter this my response is typicall to tell the individual to "grow up and get over themselves"...And the other part of the equation is to tell the parents and mentors to STOP PEDDLING their own hatrid, self pity anger and resentment and teach UNITY....as opposed to separatism.....If one has to be anything in their self identity other than HUMAN BEING and that one constantly calls attention to their own perceived differences in an attempt to garner social/political or situational edge...then said person is PRACTICING discrimination based upon they very thing they say you shouldnt' do to them. This more than anything else is what gets them the REACTION they then label as racist, sexist, anti- what haveyou.

The same is holding true for certain political functions who have taken to calling anyone who opposes or disagrees with then as DIVISIVE...meaning agree with me, yield to me or I will label you.

To all I would say LABEL me whatever you want.....But what you are really doing is "projecting your own indequacies and attitude on me and trying to get me to yeild......PASSIVE AGGRESSION...and this often is what STARTS the conflicts....In my case I will guarantee you a wall of resistance....And it is this segment of our society that needs to be told to GROW UP AND GET OVER ITSELF...and stop making excuses for laziness, mis-teachings and whatver false beliefs that those individuals use to HOLD THEMSELVES BOUND TO THE SELF IMPOSED PRISONS THEY LIVE IN.
