I discovered that I have a distant and unfortunate connection to Ms Paltrow: Some time before I met my now wife, she worked at a library in Columbus, OH. At that time, one Dante Michael Siou was a well known, frequent patron in the library. Apparently, he was notorious for his eratic, creepy and occasionally threatening behavior. Almost all the staff there were scared of him. My fiancee is a tall slender blonde (his taste, it seems). At least once she became aware of Dante trying to follow her home after leaving work for the day. Since she lives nearby and did not want to let him know her place of residence, she ducked into a local grocery store and hid out there until he got bored and left. The whole library breathed a sigh of relief when he left town and headed for California, ostensibly "to get married" (as he put it). By a freak coincidence she recently discovered his ... er.... "subsequent activities" on the West coast. Clearly this individual has issues and I for one am VERY grateful to miss Paltrow for going through the hassle and unpleasantness of a trial. On the one hand, as a public figure she must have been aware that a court case would attract unwanted attention, on the other hand, since she has more resources available to her than an average Joe she might have felt a responsibility to persue the matter legally, and thereby save others from Dante's eratic behavior and get him the help that he needed. Anyway... since it seems clear that Dante has a history of this sort of thing, it seems likely that he would continue (and probably escalate) this behavior indefinitely, Ms Paltrow has done the world a huge favor and probably saved future victims from having to endure the same kind of harassment. On the lighter side, even though the unwanted attention of Dante may have been scarey at the time, at least my wife has bragging rights to claim "one degree of separation" from one of her favorite actresses! Thanks again Gwyneth.

I too had encounters with Mr. Siou. His mother lived two doors down from me. I am not a blond and not to tall so i don't think that is his taste. He visited my husband and me once at about midnight. We had him in because he said his mom wasn't home yet. He talked about some weird church he belonged to and said he had been 'shined' upon. We let him spend the night on the sofa and I let my husband go to sleep because he had to work the next day but I stayed awake until 6:30am. I then called his mom and said 'your son Dante is here' she said startled 'oh my god, what's he done.' It kind of shocked me. Anyway, my husband made sure he was out of the house before he left for work. The man freaked me out and occasionally i had nightmares about him. However, when later I talked to his mother about him she told me he was like a child. He was super intelligent at Watterson HS and was on In The Know. A Jeopardy type game pitting high schools against each other on intellectual topics. Well, a few years later I am divorced raising 3 sons. He was staying at his mothers house for a while. One spring day I notice Dante pacing back and forth, looking down at the sidewalk in front of my house; this went on for over a week. My boys noticed him too, they were about 3,6 & 8. one of them wondered out loud why he was doing that. I said 'well, maybe he lost some thing and he's looking for it. by this time i knew enough about him to know he was harmless. One day when i got home from work {he} was out there, pacing as usual but this day he made a turn and was walking up my sidewalk. He knocked on my door and i went to open it. He told me that his mom told him that my husband had left me and he was sorry for that . he then said to me that I would probably be needing a husband and a father for the kids and he said he was available. Without missing a beat I stepped outside on the porch and put my hand on his shoulder and told him thanks and gently told him that i didn't think it would be a very good idea. " i have three rowdy boys and they drive me nuts sometimes and i didn't want bring someone else into this crazy mix. He smiled a shy smile and said he understood. He left and never bothered me again.
When I heard about the GP incident i couldn't help but think that if she had handled it the way i had done she may not have had to go through what she did. I can't help but think a lot of what was printed about the whole thing was blown out of proportion i.e. the sex toys and other deliveries to her home. I don't know. I don't think she handled it well and maybe your wife didn't either. but how could they have known.
