Hip hop in the rock n roll hall of fame? Why? The Rock n roll hall of fame has lost any integrity it had.

Mike - gotta diagree with you - I think it's about your own contributions and influences - Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five may not be rock acts but they have certainly influenced folks like Kid Rock, Jason Mraz and The Beastie Boys.
Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Willie Dixon are blues diety and in the hall because their influence on the Stone & Clapton to name a few.
Lead Belly and Woody Guthrie are folk greats are in the hall are folk acts but if you listen to a Bruce Sprinsteen record, you'll hear their influences. Country & Bluegrass pioneers like Hank Williams, Bob Wills and Jimmie Rodgers are in the hall and they influences artists as varied as Neil Young and Social Distortion to The Dead.
Would their be a Janis Joplin without Billie Holiday.
Bono says one of his biggest influences was Johnny Cash.
All these artsists below in the Hall not just becuase of their own great accomplishments but also because of the people they have influenced - with that, would we even have a rock-n-roll hall of fame without Robert Johnson

That is a good point buckeye. But I still say there needs to be a partition. Seperate these into inducted due to performance vs. influence, but that is a thin line too.

I think the only the division the hall currently has is performer and non-performer. Music industry pioneers like Atlantic Record's Ahmet Ertegun, Arita's Clive Davis and Promoter/Manager Bill Graham, even Rolling Stone Found Jan Werner are in as non-performers (So are songwriters Dozier, Holland & Dozier and Leiber and Stoller and even Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss are in as non-performers becuase of A&M Records - strange)

I am amazed at how Prog Rock bands have been ignored. They sold millions of albums and packed venues for a couple decades. Also factor in that the Prog bands have some of the finest ACTUAL musicians to ever play in Rock N Roll (and produce their own music as well at times) and the mystery deepens.

Yes and Genesis are two of the bigger bands to be ignored. I can only wonder why.
