Mr. Reich:

You wrote a well done obit on Johnny Griffin that captured his significance, but I must fault you on a minor facual error.

Walter Dyett never had Dinah Washington as a student. He was at DuSable in 1938 and 1939, and Ruth Jones was at Phillips High. This bit of misinformation appeared in a Tribune Magazine article on Dyett a few years ago.
