Hi MauricePColgan,
I tried to translate the web site page that you have posted, one thing is not clear to me, but Marcus has outraged the review of that Goldman ago on his book when he says "cultural genocide?"
And then, George Bush Sr saw Elvis? Wow, blessed him! Maybe he saw in a dream? Or had a mystical vision?

Katia, Theres a photo of George Bush Senior with Elvis. I have seen it on webpages awhile ago.

Greil Marcus tore into Goldman good and proper. So did other honest music historians.

He matters only when one puts his influence in proper perspective.

The most damaging aspect to E's legacy has not been the unflattering details of his personal life, not any book or article or ex-wife or girlfriend or associate ... the most damage has been, and is being, done by the lunatic, mentally skewed fan base.

And that fact is best summed up when one reads the collective comments of so-called "fans" who vehemently shout their anger and disgust at the notion that E might have actually had the 'nerve' to disrespect and disappoint THEM by faking his own death. A pitiful, pitiful statement on the phenomenon of those who claim to be "Elvis Presley fans".

Maurice, you tell me that there is a photo of Elvis with Bush senior? Really? My God! But how is this possible? You have seen the photos?
Sorry, my translator makes me bad jokes! You have written that Greil Marcus is a good writer and he writes good books that relate to the music? I am pleased then!

Katia, Elvis and then congressman from Texas, George W. Bush,(younger Bush not senior) met and shook hands at the Jaycee award luncheon when Elvis received his Jaycee Award for being one of "Ten Outstanding Young Men of America" January 15, 1971

My mistake ...it was the senior Bush
George H.W. Bush that met Elvis at the ceremony it seems. From the back of the head picture... I thought it was George W. Bush.

Yes TCB-girl! Thank you for the valuable information! Yes Elvis received a prize really important! WOW! Elvis was recognized among 10 young men the most important in America, I imagine his emotion! Even I move! But you know what you say TCB-girl, that if Elvis had continued to live would have received the prize among the 10 most important people in the world! Although I must say that if he could not do this in person, his memory has received millions of prizes in all these years!

Elvis said these wonderful words ...

Without a Song

Without a song, not the day would never
Without a song, not the road would never have been a turning point
When things go wrong, a man would not have a friend
without a song.
I will continue to do songs!

ELVIS, YOU ARE GREAT!

Drenssi, why the need to insult others intelligence, especially someone who is from a non English speaking country yet finds the time to research and make a very big effort to post here in a language she is unfamiliar with. You come across as a rather arrogant bore which from your other posts doesn't appear to be what you really are. By all means stay here and debate what you see as your theories on what Elvis is, was, but please try to show some curtesy towards the non English speaking posters it's very rude and not at all how we like to see our posters treated.

It's not that he would have disrespected or disapointed US,Drensi. It is that he would not have done that to Lisa. Not only that, but contrary to what you may have read, Elvis loved the limelight and loved being in show business, etc. He was not running away from fame. He thrived on it, and thrived on being on stage! He only began to get sick after Priscilla suddenly left him, he was sick with greif, and because the divorce had forced him to sell the rights to his music, he had to work a backbreaking schedule. Not only that, but if you were in the world then, it was OBVIOUS that Elvis was not going to live much longer. I told my friend, "Elvis is going to die soon". I knew he was dying just from the way he looked! He was obviously very, very sick! He DIED!

Katia, I don't know how you feel about the Bushes, but Elvis at that time did not know what the Bushes were going to do in the future!

Elvis Presley is still important because of his remarkable voice and the ability to interpret songs so beautifully.

At his best Elvis was incomparable. That is why we are here.

Young people discovering Elvis's best work are sure to explore further.

Today my youngest grandchildren are ten. Twins Rebecca and Rachel have been dancing to Elvis's music since they were toddlers. Both of them are musicians and are learning the importance of Elvis and Beethoven, and company.

They at ten already know Elvis is still very important today. They of course introduce his music to their 'sophisticated' friends.:-)

Thanks Steve for having tried to defend, I thank you, but there are no problems from me, this man or woman does not know, he can do all the sarcasm he wants, but I continue to write about Elvis here, I feel sorry for him if he proves inconvenience to me, but in any case he must resign, I love Elvis as everyone here.
I apologise to everyone, however, the forum if the way I write is not very understandable!
Then drensii because I take around the words of Elvis that I wrote? For me it was a way to remember him, find this ridiculous?

Yes Lee, Elvis and Bush Sr. met by chance, Elvis and all could not have known that Bush had become the President of the United States of America!
