In my country only widows continue to use the surname of her husband dead, Priscilla, as I know, she is not the widow of Elvis!

I think there's a post some months back that asks the eaxct same question, so you may find you may get the same answers from the same people.

IMO
In America it is perfectly legal to keep your divorced husband's last name. Many women in America do just that... especially if there are children from the marriage...

That being said...many fans including myself have issues with the fact that Priscilla gave up the last name when she divorced ELVIS and left to be with her lover Mike Stone. Priscilla went back to using her maiden name after the divorce..and then found it strangely CONVENIENT to take ELVIS' name back after he passed away. When questioned she says it is because of Lisa-Marie that she uses the last name Presley...but Priscilla also had a child from her 20+ year lover Marco Garibaldi (lovers from 1984 to 2006) and there never seemed to be a worry that her son did not share the same last name as his mother. It seems pretty self serving to many fans (including this one) that Priscilla went back to using the name of Presley after the death of ELVIS, and a outright LIE to say she did it for Lisa...She certainly did not care about her son going through life illegitimate and with a different name from hers. There is only one reason she took back the name PRESLEY...FAME AND FORTUNE. If Elvis was a truck driver named Joe Smith that she divorced....Her name would be a different one from Smith at this point in her life and EVERYONE knows it.

An even bigger issue for me is when she is called the WIDOW of Presley when she definitely is NOT and does not correct the speaker.

EXCELLENT post TCB-girl! I really like! Your explanation is clear and CLEAR! Indeed, TCB-girl, she should not be called widow!
With your answer I would say that it is very DIFFICULT that Priscilla has loved Elvis!
You showed me a great thing! I did not know that Priscilla after divorce not used the surname Presley, Elvis obviously not WISHED!
After the death of Elvis she used Presley! It 'so clear, Priscilla wanted only fame and success, she is not worth it!!!

TCB, I have heard this from many fan, that she gave up the name Presley. I don't remember that. Do you? All I remember is that I read a magazine article that said that she PLANNED to use the Presley name till she could get established in show business, then change it to Priscilla Beuleau Presley, and then drop the Presley altogether. I don't know if she really said that, I just read it(being more fair to her than some are to Elvis). But I never read where she dropped the Presley name for any length of time. Do you remember?

Yes, when they call her "widow" and she doesn't correct it, it makes it look like she loved him and forget about the psycholically devestating way that she left him...suddenly walking out, then appearing on national TV with her LOVER, proclaiming her whoring proudly to the world. Can anyone even remotely IMAGINE how Elvis could have felt???

I don't know that she ever LEGALLY dropped the name Presley ever. As far as I know she did go by Priscilla Beaulieu after the divorce professionally and publicly..... and then after he died suddenly you started seeing Priscilla Presley as her name in public again.

When she did the August 73 interview after the divorce with the Ladies Home Journal...it states in the article the name on her doorbell was "Beaulieu".
When she openened the Bis and Beau Boutique after the divorice the name of the boutique stood for Olivia Bis and Priscilla Beaulieu.

What I meant was, do you REMEMBER this, or is it something that was written years later? You know how I am about stuff we read later. Maybe I just forgot this.

priscilla using the name presley doesnt annoy me as much as priscilla using the name presley to make all of her money and then take credit for it herself. she has no talent so she makes money from her EX husbands talent. Now THAT bugs me!
She is a cold fish!

I am very torn about her using the name. She has done alot to keep things going for the Estate, and yes, I know it benefits her, but she is a huge part of Elvis history. I was at the FedEx Center for the 30th Anniversary concert and it was just fantastic how she walked through the audience meeting and greeting fans. She didn't have to do that. I don't however like when she is referred to as his "widow". She is not Elvis' "widow".

Yes, it was just "fantastic" how she walked through the audience meeting and greeting fans, like SHE was the star! She thinks it's about HER!

Agree Lee. She doesnt do it for the fans at all. She thinks she is the star of the show and that everyone is there for her...Miss Talentless! Is she so self involved that she doesnt take off her rose tinted glasses and realise they are ELVIS's fans - not hers!
The only reason she pretends to like the fans is so that they believe her lies about her life with Elvis. Oooh the hardship she must have endured during her marriage. Not allowed to eat tuna salad, never having to work or balance a check-book, never having to worry about a thing! That poor poor woman!

she reverted to her maiden name - including when she ran a boutique called Bis & Beau - named for her and her business partner

she only returned to using Presley after Elvis' death and when she began her acting career - it had nothing to do with Lisa

she incorrectly calls herself Elvis' widow - to be a widow you have to be married at the time of the death, and they were certainly not.

Wow!! I agree w/everyone's responses. That is why I am so torn. I used to be really against her, it's just now I am on the fence. But I also do agree w/the postings here as well.

what's the point of being against her?

while meeting Elvis would have been a fairytale - I don't think the reality was very happy

I don't think I would have put up with the constant attendance of the Memphis Mafia guys, the constant away for movies and tours, the reasonable claims of affairs with starlets and others

the being told how to dress, do the hair, not have any career of your own

I don't think many could have survived or thrived in that.

I never blamed her for leaving Elvis - and if she hadn't stepped in after Vernon's death

the estate would have been lost to back taxes

Priscilla has made more money on the Elvis name than Elvis did in his lifetime

while I don't think she is correct in using the Presley name or calling herself his widow

she has done mostly well by his memory in creating the Graceland tours, the FTD label

if they would just stop with the Elvis' picture on all the crap - and also, release the CBC 77 special and stop pretending Elvis ceased to exist in 1973

I agree that Elvis made great stuff after 73 all the way to the end! I have only listen to the CBC special on a cd, and I think his voice was great, even though he sounded a bit tired. Then he seemed to forget the word on one song, I always wondered if he really forgot them or if he just wanted to play around with the lyrics? But he really toured hard so it's no wonder he was fatigued!
So obviously they should be proud over Elvis all the way, not just over certain periods of his life!

I've seen all three final concerts

and while they are not Elvis at their prime

and he is sick

there are moments when he really does pull it out and succeeds

it's not as bad as people would have you believe

but they are historic, because they were the last concerts

and they were professionally filmed

6 weeks later, he was gone
