Elvis cousin Billy was the one closest in the last years to Elvis but kinda left out in cold when Elvis died.I was wondering what people know or think they know about this.

According to Billy's own words via books and interviews, he was booted out in a way, from Graceland.

He accounts that he had signed and hidden a will, at Elvis' request in march before Elvis died in August. Elvis had revised his will, BILLY was IN the will. Elvis asked him if he wanted to read it, he did and then was asked by Elvis to hide it.

ALmost immediately after Elvis death, Elvis' cousin Patsy asked Billy to retrieve the will, he did. HE never saw it again, but he was told that Vernon was seen burning "trash" in a 55 gallon barrel out back of Graceland.

He stayed on a while at graceland helping to catalog and set up the first trophy room. He said there was a difference in opinion as to how certain things should be done, conflict arose and then he was basically out.
Vernon didn't like the Smith's, Gladys' people. Billy was her nephew. Billy asked Vernon for the double wide trailer he and his family lived in behind Graceland. Vernon refused him. He then asked for at least the furniture, Vernon said NO !! They left for mississippi with NOTHING. THey even had to sell off things Elvis had given them to make it. Elvis had told him he would be taken care of. HE told him the trailer was in billy's name

He tried to call priscilla, nothing. He spoke to Lisa once I think and then they have never contacted him again.
So there you have it..at least 'part' of the REAL story.
Elvis loved Billy. He would be appalled if he knew.

you know,

I find it bugs me that people expected Elvis to take care of them

Billy was an adult, all the MM guys were adults

Lisa was going to be an adult - and Priscilla was working when Lisa was a kid

why are they entitled to live off Elvis their whole lives?

Nina, Billy only expected what Elvis promised, that promise should have been honored. Billy worked for Elvis for how many years? It has little to do with expectations for his loyalty as a family member. But why is it so wrong that Elvis would help Billy out knowing full well that for all the years of work, there would be no security for Billy's family with out that help?? Would you work a job and not expect some kind of retirement or severance pay. The one's fired at least got that?? But Billy who stays to the end got nothing?? How is that right??
The bottom line is that Billy loved Elvis and Elvis loved him. Elvis was closer to Billy than anyone else ever. Vernon and Priscilla out of gratefulness and courtesy should have never let him, Jo, and the boys leave with just the little they did. It's a disgrace to the legacy of who Elvis was. He made his mistakes but kept his promises no matter how they went bad at times. Aside from his marriage, he was a man of honor. And I think he would be apalled at their actions.

Billy worked for Elvis but what did he do? I think Vernon After 20 Years of watching people taken advantage of Elvis,s Generosity(Vernon did too)enjoyed cutting everybody out of will if thats what he did was burn it. Elvis estate was in bad shape _elvis could have provided for many people if there was another will and estate would of been left with nothing

Didn't Billy Smith start working for Elvis at the age of 16?

I think I read that in a biography about Elvis. I might be wrong does someone have the correct information?

I knew this subject would be either for or against Billy Smith, how is it possible that it's not the facts that is talked about? Is it so damn funny to trash talk people?

Let's talk facts and less personal opinions..just a thought!!

I don't know much about Billy Smith, and like to know more and yes I could read books. But I thought this place was about sharing info and facts, but I might be wrong!

And another question, why do people constantly mix Billy Smith and Billy Stanley?

Actually most working people have no pension or benefits and only get severance if they are fired without cause.

Red, Sony and Hebler only got a week's severance for years of service in the West cousin's case - Hebler had only been around a short while.

Had Elvis lived, Billy would have continued to make his living off his cousin.

It's not like Elvis planned to die - but clearly he drew a a new will and cut everyone out except Lisa - had he lived, he might have changed the will back. we'll never know

I'm not for or against him

I'm just getting tired of people whining that or whining on behalf of people who weren't in Elvis' will.

People worked for him and they were paid, got gifts and went along for the ride.

Elvis didn't owe them a living for the rest of their lives.

If they wanted a better income, pension, etc - then they should have left, been a grown up, and gotten a job or career of their own.

They should all be grateful for the time that they had with him

and stop picking at him to continue getting Elvis crumbs.

Well, aren't you whining too, your post here is just whining. Interesting enough I didn't direct my post to you, but somehow you deceided to answer my question with a harsh tone! What's the matter with you? You really go on like people are stupid. This isn't the first time you bulldoze other peoples questions, if you are tired, why write back?
Go and bully someone else! All thing's in the world doesn't have to be black and white, or the Nina way! You are not some guru who sits on every answer and so on. If you say family isn't important then it stands for you, it's your right. But stop butchering others people questions, just because you dislike them!

Don't believe for a second that people are as gullible as you might belief. If you don't want to write something interesting more than your hatred over certain parts of Presley family and their kin. Why don't you shut up!
It's free forum, and all are in their right to say what they want, but this is bullshit!

I'm sure you will be able to make fun of what I written but I don't care.
As far as picking the crumbs of Elvis table, shouldn't you be writing angry letters to the graceland estate, for being greedy?

I came on here because I wanted to talk to fellow Elvis fans, but I guess there ain't any real interest in talking facts, just personal opinions to set up fights!

So Nina stop whining about what topics other Elvis fans want to talk about.

Nina Billy worked for Elvis by basically being a gopher and taking care of many little things. He did at Elvis's request and was his most trusted employee. He earned every dime and gift he ever got. And really, does it matter if you think he deserved it or not?? Apparently Elvis did. It was give and take. Billy went through a lot working for Elvis and his family sacrificed a lot too. Being fired several times, being there for Elvis at Elvis's beck and call. I tell you the God's truth it was out of shear love for Elvis. Do you know who I am?? You can have your opinion, I have the facts.
And no matter what anyone think,,Elvis would never leave Billy and his wife and kids leaving with just the shirts off their backs, no way!! Elvis bought them their trailor and all that was in it out of generousity and love for them. You don't think he would want them to keep them?? That is senselss.

The will didn't leave any of the MM anything...Billy was his first cousin..and he TOLD billy he was in the will.

Elvis took care of FAMILY,,even after his death as is evident by his grandmother and aunt living in graceland until their deaths.
BUT....VERNON cut Billy out because he was a SMITH.

He wasn't burning anything to protect Elvis from anyone...he did it to protect HIMSELF

Elvis created a new will in the spring of '77. Ginger, vernon, and patsy signed and witnessed it...maybe someone else,I can't quite remember,,but Elvis let Billy read this will and then asked him to put it in a safe place. Billy basically hid it at Elvis' request. Almost immediately after Elvis' death, Vernon asked patsy to get it from Billy. Billy, unthinkingly, gave it to her. HE never saw it again and was told that Vernon was burning something in a 55 gallon drum back of graceland.
Vernon refused to give billy and his family the trailor, or even the furniture out of it. THey left for mississippi with not much more than the clothes on their backs.
Billy was family, but Vernon didn't like the Smith's, so there you have it. Vernon was all for himself and his.
Had Elvis really TCB...he might be alive today. HE dodged the basic responsibilites of life and money handling,,,part of his downfall.
BUT billy wasn't treated fairly at all.

Wouldn't Elvis new will over ride any other one.The will made in March of 1977,witnessed and signed by C.Hodge.G.alden,and Ann Dewey Smith.I'm not saying Billy didn't deserve what Elvis rightfully gave him.But when Elvis was alive he gave and gave and gave.I wish he could have worried more about his self some, instead of thinking he owed everyone a living. When someone is down on their luck, most people will help if possible,if you need food.I'LL feed you if I have it,if you need shelter I'll help you if I can,if you need a loan Ill help you if I'm able. But just because someone has money doesn't meen their obligated to buy someone a car.pay for their house,or pay to have their pool repaired for, because their daughter was shacking up with Elvis, and Elvis supposedly promised them I'm sure the estate was getting hit on all side's by people saying Elvis promised me.If someone is an mentally and physically able to work. There's no guarntee's or know one owes us anything's in life.In the end Elvis was a very, very troubled and sick man, maybe some of those asking for what Elvis promised them should have been giving instead.

I am tired of the people who were around Elvis whining that they were left out or entitled to some piece of him.
