I I love you Lee! You speak with the lips of Elvis! It's incredible, Elvis is dead for so many years and there's still people who say things so bad on him and his family! I am not surprised that Elvis is dead so young, he was too sensitive to deal with a world bad!

<quoted text>Steve, except for gaining a little weight at the time of Paradise Hawaiian Style, Elvis was NEVER overweight until Priscilla left him. If you were old enough to remember, almost immediately after Priscilla left him, he began to go downhill. He was trying to comfort himself. Yes, he did deteriorate and die because Priscilla betrayed him. He fell apart when she left him, went on a downhill spiral and died. I was watching him THEN, and I saw it happening.
"Get a Grip?" All you younger fans read all the untrue garbage that has been promoted by the MM and others who were around him ant think you know something. Well some of us saw some things that we KNOW are true no matter what the MM says.
He was also sick, from almost all accounts by even trustworthy people (Charlie Hodge) and even though I have no affection for Priscilla, it wasnot 100% her fault that he died. her leaving wasn't what caused his death, and I'm sure I'll get blasted for saying that. I can't stand her but he made his own decisions, he was a grown man. and I do believe he had serious health problems ASIDE from the abuse of the pills in his last years.

E's eventually decision to leave was based upon the many years of destructive influences of those whose only motive was money.
In the world of Elvis Presley fandom, it is a real case study that so many self-proclaimed "fans" evidently cared little to nothing about the MAN. These same individuals are somehow afraid or hesitant to speak out about those who unduly influenced E and prevented him from evolving both personally and professionally. These "fans" are so misguided, so skewed in their thinking that they are actually incensed when presented reasons/facts that E faked his death and found the peace and contentment that had previously eluded him. And WHY are they incensed? Because they consider such action a betrayal, a disappointment to THEM ... never mind the happiness of the MAN they "claim" to love.
Sad statement.
I think you understand your intentions. Do you believe to be objective speaking evil of Elvis, but be objective does not mean in any event speak evil of a person. You talk about very intimate things Elvis and that you can not know, how do you spit judgments about things so intimate that most likely knew only Elvis?
You say that things negative family have influenced the life of Elvis, but what, excuse you? Elvis was and is simply GREAT in everything we did! How do you say that had problems in his profession?

Yes, I agree...Elvis was so tender hearted...A gentle spirit. You can feel Elvis himself come through in his music.

You seem very confident in what you say, but do you ever think about who posts on forums about E?

Meanwhile you do not have you answered my question, you first have said that parents have impacted negatively on the profession of Elvis! How do you say something like that? Then, you must forgive me, I did not understand what you say about me, I guess you make of sarcasm, I think you should take me around, tell me what you want? Perhaps that I say stupid things in this forum?

Thanks TCB-sweet girl to defend! Thank you very much!

Lee the story about Vernon being work shy didn;t start with Albert Goldman, for some who doesn't read trashy books about Elvis you seem to know an awful lot out of them. It was a well known FACT Vernon was in fact a very lazy man when it came to working. This is one of the reasons Elvis adored his mother so much, she was the main bread winner most of Elvis's young life and also kept the home together when Vernon went to prison, again because he couldn't be bothered to find work like other hardworking people he just decided he would commit cheque fraud instead. As for you quip about Vernon flipping hamburgers, like I've said in my previous post Elvis couldn't have handled it any different, it wasn't like Vernon was the brightest star on the christmas tree so could only get minimum wage jobs any way. Elvis would have been crucified by the press if he had allowed his father to work whilst he was earning millions. Yet goes to show Vernon waht he really was about, if he had any self respect he would have at least tried to find employment showing Elvis and the world he wasn't a moocher.

A lot of misrepresentation there.

If only life was so simple!
Vernon may have not been enthusiastic about working for peanuts, but he did indeed work. In the Mississippi heat!
His short stay in prison was an unfortunate chapter. not repeated!

The abbreviation of peoples lives in books is very unreliable evidence of the reality.

Hi Steve, you read a lot about Elvis, but as Maurice, not all books in the world reveal the TRUTH ABSOLUTE! You can not say with absolute certainty that things are going well. Of course, Vernon was able to commit mistakes in the past, but from this to call him "moocher", there is a big difference (what it means to moocher? Not my translator tells me what is!)
I believe that among all components of the Presley family was very union and affection, secure, Elvis had a special attachment to mother, but wanted so well to his father Vernon, it also explains the fact that during the numerous concerts of Elvis in the'70s, Elvis also brought his father, there was a great union between them.
When Elvis began to have a great success, there was not the reason that Vernon had a job all his, Vernon subsequently cured Affairs Elvis, he tried to protect the things his son. I in this I do not see anything wrong!

I agree with you, Katia! That not all books can reveal the absolute truth, and also that Elvis loved his parents and wanted to take care of them once he knew he could.. I think they were a close family and just because Vernon made mistakes in his past, doesn't mean he was lazy or no good.

We have all made mistakes as we have gone through life...the sad thing for the Presley family is that their every mistake is magnified a thousand times and tongues wag a zillion times. I will not judge Vernon as I feel most any family would have done the same under the same circumstances if the family came into money and had always previously been poor. Vernon did work for Elvis so his ride was not totally free.

I will make this little side note about Vernon....He certainly was a handsome man.:) I notice just how handsome more now that I am exactly the age Vernon was when Elvis passed away.. In the early years I was to busy noticing how handsome his son was to realize what a striking man Vernon was also. ;)

Vernon was a user, a moocher, a free-rider who contributed nothing and never helped his son. He was a rude, sour, and disagreeable man in person.

But then E was completely surrounded by users; do not believe that the more prominently known "associates" cared about him - they didn't. They cared about their cushy, do-nothing positions.

The few individuals whom E encountered in his life were quickly shunned, pushed away by the users for fear that they themselves would be pushed off the gravy train. The last thing any of them wanted was that E would see beyond that tightly wound circle of lackeys and understand that he could actually have more, do more, and be more.

Perhaps the term "in person" is too vague, too complicated for someone with such an obvious lack of grammatical understanding.
