In the huge treasure chest with historical footage that is called YouTube, another diamond is found…The online archive from the American TV Station CBS has released a 3 minute interview with Elvis’ grandfather, Jesse D. Presley. Jesse is a guest in a talk show to talk about the release of his single ‘The Billy Goat Song’. It seems to be that he had still lots of ambition to make it as a singer at the age of 62.
Off course, Jesse thought to make advantage of his famous last name because of Elvis’ popularity.‘The Bill Goat Song’ was brought to the attention of the fans in 2006 when ElvisMatters released the song on CD and gave a free copy to all of the club members. The talk show host asks Jesse what he would do if his career became successful. The answer is ‘I would pay my mortgage and I will retire’. This answer may seem a bit strange, knowing that Elvis would not pay the house for his grandfather while he gave so many things away to strangers. But…Elvis had a good reason for this. Jesse left his family when Vernon was a baby. Vernon never got over this and Elvis always blamed his grandfather for doing this. The woman next to Jesse is not Elvis’ grandmother, but Jesse’s second wife. As known, Elvis’ grandmother en Vernons mother ‘Dodger’ was loved by her family and she even lived with them. It is remarkable how little there is talked about Elvis. His name is only mentioned in the last seconds, while the couple had no contact at all with Elvis. http://www.youtube.com/watch... Elvis did have contact with his grandfather though and did give him a car http://www.elvisinfonet.com/spotlight_JesseDP... |

It was Jesse and his wife, Vera that lived in
Louisville, KY at the time Elvis played a concert there on November 7, 1971. Elvis introduces him to the audience. It's a fine performance too. It was when Elvis was still opening with "That's Alright" Before the introductions, Elvis does "How Great" then finishes the concert with 6 more songs; "I'm Leavin" "Bridge" "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" "Now Or- Never" "Suspicious Minds" and of course, "Cant Help Falling In Love" I believe it was the last time Elvis saw his grandfather before Jesse's death in 1973. |

For the most part, the families on each side, Presley/Smith, were thoroughly dysfunctional - southern white trash. E was able to rise above that, to a degree. He should have kicked Vernon and the Stanley morons to the curb and refused to fund one minute of their sorry mooching.

so what are you over coming that you have to run down people who lived in extreme poverty to make yourself feel like the better person? here's a clue for you - the only people who are actually trash, are those who think that any people actually are. |
||||
You must be far above us mere mortal human beings - if you believe that some people aren't trash. They are, and it's a fact - some by lack of opportunities and some by choice. Unless you knew E's true history or met some of his relatives, don't converse on this topic. Some of the people E most hated were those who sucked up all the time - quite like you. |

I see. And all those starving children in Africa ... trash, are they? Moron. |

lack of opportunity or lack of wealth do not make people "trash" Bigotry, cruelty and ignorance are the qualities which most demean a person - and you're doing well on both fronts. Now scoot on back to your little college nd learn to take some new pictures - you know nothing. |

Judged:
1 amazingly, you have no authority - real or moral - to make that demand of anyone. and if all you're doing here is to post trash, then, I strongly suggest you take your own instruction |

I am from Mississippi as was Elvis, I had relatives as a child who had outhouses, were poor , yet honest hard working people.
Being dysfunctional doesn't make you trash. There isn't ANYONE on this earth who hasn't dynfuntion of some type in their families. Elvis' mother worked in a factory to make ends meet, she was a good woman who helped others and if she had faults as a person, then she was like the rest of us..HUMAN. I agree Elvis should have made some of those around him take more responsibility, but he was also raised to respect his family and elders..evidently he did although he would have fared better to get a "balance" in his own life and make them take care of themselves. Loretta Lynn said it best..."I may be ignorant,,but I ain't dumb". Which, I will translate for you....she only "knew" what she "knew"... SHE was the FIRST woman in country music to be a millionaire..NOT trash..but POOR. Unless you have seen that kind of poverty up close or personal , you have no idea of what you spout. Elvis hadn't much to draw from because his family only knew what they knew. They were trying to survive. THere were many mental issues the family had, but again, there wasn't much help then. IT was considered WEAK if you asked for help. That was part of ELvis' problem, pride . Just because someone is different and doesn't live like YOU do, doesn't give you the right to be their conscience , and their judge. I think the south in particular gets picked on because of our accents and our ways of life..we are NOT trash. Elvis comes from a long line of accomplished mississippians, among them william faulkner...look it up.. He may not have been educated and at first lacked some sophistication, but he wasn't TRASH.
