I have a question for you...

I just got home only hours ago from Memphis and touring Graceland earlier today (4/13/07). When I was coming up the back staircase, which goes up to the "Jungle Room", about eye-level from the from the basement floor and adjacent to the first few steps heading upstairs on the left side (as you're walking upstairs) there is a 3'x3' plexiglass or acrylic piece similar to a window. This is not explained in the audio and when I asked one of the workers she said "Oh, we're not supposed to talk about that". But, it's not even covered up and anyone/everyone can see that there is something behind this window, like a room. I'm wondering if you know of anything about this? Before I checked out of my hotel I tried searching the internet and I've even tried searching after arriving home and I can't find anything related to this.

Ben it's strange the guides didn't tell you about a supposed secret room round about there. If you think back to the bottom of those stairs there's a door that leads into what is now a store room but was Jerry Schillings bedroom when he lived at Graceland. While we were there a guide told us about this secret room that LMP goes into when she's at Graceland but would say no more about it. If you go onto google earth you can take a virtual tour around the house so maybe it will show up on this?

it's probable a place where they can look out at you but you can't see in at them. Like they have in stores to catch shoplifters. Its to stop vandalism and theft.

They don't need to have a look out everything and I mean everything is sensored and behind waist high pieces of glass. You go to lean over and a voice comes from no where telling you to step back and not to touch the displays.

Does this mean you're going to Graceland this August? How unbelievably exciting!! I hope to get there one day. I want to know if you can "feel" his spirit around.

Hi Natalie,

I never had the desire for a Graceland visit after he wasn't there anymore. My husband went through Graceland when he was in Memphis on business. He enjoyed the tour, but ELVIS wasn't close to his heart so I think his perspective would have been different than mine. I always felt it would make me so very sad to go there, but others have gone and said it was a wonderful experience for them...especially those who were not even born when he was around. I hope so much your trip is WONDERFUL and you come back and share with us about it. It is very humid and hot in Memphis in August...so pack accordingly. ;)

That will be so much fun for you. Have you been to the U.S. before?
You're probably right to go when its more quiet, just to be able to feel more I think. On the other hand I think this year will be quite exciting also being the 30th anniversary. Unbelievable how long he's been gone and how much he's still remembered and missed. But then he was such an awesome man, as well as an extraordinary singer and entertainer!

If I am correct, you are coming from the basement after viewing the billiard room.......then you walk down the hall...go up stairs that lead to the jungle room? well....that small window, if on the left..probably looks in the laundry room..

The jungle room was added in later years....the kitchen...where the sink is toward the jungle room,,used to look out into the back yard of the house instead of the jungle room.

the stairs coming up from the billiard room,,,were an outside way to enter the basement without entering the house...so that window was probably visible years ago from outside.

just a thought !

B4 going up the stairs as you walk down the little hallway after leaving the billyard room, the 2 doors on the right are bathrooms. The 1st door is just a toilet n sink style and the last door (2nd) door on the right b4 u exit to go up the stairs is a full bathroom that actually goes into a small hallway and into the room behind the fireplace (Used 2b Charlie Hodges room after he moved down stairs so Elvis could have more room) of the tv room. The little window you see going up the stairs to the jungle room (only door on left side b4 stairs) is the laundry room.

There is another door at the back of the kitchen away from the public view, it's not a potato store, it's a full room maybe a small apartment. What about upstairs in the attic that might be an apartment up there too. Also I have seen old dvd's of E rehearsing in his house with his group it looks like the same red pattern wall paper that he had in his house in Graceland and they have moved all the furniture out of the room and turned it into a studio.

Incorrect.

Elvis was never filmed rehearsing in any of his homes, especially not Graceland.

The footage to which you refer was filmed in the ballroom of the International Hotel in Las Vegas in July 1970, as he rehearsed for his third engagement there the following month. It can be seen in the movie That's The Way It Is.

There is also no apartment or anything like that upstairs at Graceland either, not are there any secret rooms.
