Elvis 30 # 1 hits has been certified for sales of over 5 million, in the US.

Tne other awards, all for videos, recently given to him by the RIAA are

i) 4X Platinum for the 68 Special Video (400,000 copies)

ii) 3X Platinum for the Aloha from hawaii Special video (300,000 copies sold_ and

ii) Platinum for the Elvis #1's video (100,000 copies).

Michael Jackson will soon be certidied for about 8.5 million additional albums sold in the US, since his death, thus increasing his album totals from 61.5 million sold to about an even 70 million.

Just above him, and in between Elvis's 120 million tally there's five artists, namely

STREISAND, BARBRA with 71 *will probably overtake her soon).
PINK FLOYD with 74.5 (maybe next year)
JOEL, BILLY with 79.5 (in two years time)
EAGLES with 100 (difficult, perhaps in 4 years)
LED ZEPPELIN with 111.5 (as per above)

Above Elvis's 120 million, there's

BROOKS, GARTH 128
BEATLES, THE 170

remember when Gold was a million copies?

when did Platinum become 100,000 ?

Hi NIna!! That 100,000 figure refers only to longform DVD's, in other words DVD's, or any kind of cassette, or tape, that has more than a certain amount of minutes but which has not been released earlier in theaters, etc.

In other words, a DVD of, say, a movie like "Blue Hawaii" that sells 4 million copies is not given anything by the RIAA, because it was released in theaters in 1961. Of course, the label that releases it can give the artist its award.

Now, as to the 1,000,000 figure for albums, and the Platinum award that comes with it, as well as the ones that follow, 2X Platinum and so on and so forth, for each additional million of units sold, remaisn valid.

Just to inform you Michael Jackson's sales for the week, according to HitsDailyDouble projections, will continue its anticipated decrease, with 450,000 units expected to be sold this week for his 12 albums, including those withg the Jackson 5.

Number Ones is his best seller, again, with 155,000 expected for this week.

Last week, there were 610,000 MJ CD's sold in America, and the week before 700,000. The week before that, it was over a million.

Elvis will soon pass Garth Brooks in US sales to regain the #2 overall spot while MJ will most likely never catch up to overtake Elvis or the Beatles in our lifetime. Elvis may not even catch the Fab Four even. As his sales grow so do the Beatles.

I've been trying to tell all of these Jacko freaks that his sales have been rapidly declining even in death although he had a week or two following his death where he sold a few million. But nothing near what Elvis did back in August of 77.

Jacko has already reached his peak of fame unlike Elvis who is still peaking in fame 32 years after his death.

According to the RIAA, which of course does not tally sales in between levels, or albums that have yet to see their first 500,000 copies, of which Elvis Presley has about 220, and Michael Jackson none, the former is certified as selling 40 more million singles and about 50 more million albums in the United States than the latter, in a market which, incidentally, is by far the largest in the world.

sure, but when Elvis got is original gold records

it was for 1 million units

now gold is half a million and platinum is 1 million

seriously, platinum should have been 10 million

magnitude up, not make it seem like something more by renaming the gold standard

stupid marketing hype makes everything meaningless

China, yes, but for chinese records. Otherwise, we would have heard already that this american or british artists has sold this, or that, in China. Incidentally, it's final for this week at Hits Daily Double, Michael Jackson' tally for this week was even less than I had anticipated in an earlier comments in this here thread. It will be less than 350,000 units for his 12 albums, including those with the Jackson 5.

I just read E.I.NET WORK that sony is going to release 30cd box set of orig. albums 10,000 limit. I was wondering if these will count as separate to ad to what orig. sold. I know they already released 3orig. albums from Camden I think on one cd does that add to orig. sales. The new FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS would probaly sell a million if they reased video of Stranger in my home town for play on C.M.T. I would like to see orig. albums availible like Promised Land or Today.I,m not sure what rules are or what ones have been certified ,what do we have to buy to put over limit?

Without any promotion Elvis sells around 3 million a year of his back catalog in America. Imagine what he would sell if he got the same promotion like The Beatles and Jacko will get dead. Elvis' numbers would triple yearly.

it will be separate and this set is allegedly limited to a run of 10,000

and will cost about $1000

which makes me wonder why bother putting in that effort

better to upgrade the sound and reissue

or put the work into FTD releases

right, so the thinking is, why put in effort when he sells more than many living artists?

I think they should upgrade sound on alot of orig.albums, make more availible.I guess music is being downloaded, cd,s sales are way down.I like somthing physical but times change.I like being able to go on line and see rare live footage of Elvis back in 70,s.I think EPE. should get best bootleg footage along with unreleased footage they have with sound for 70,s dvd
