Hello, I am trying to find the name of the song which I believe eddy sang. I heard it on the radio in the late '70s. Parts of the lyrics are "All tucked in and dreamin' of the range/So make a pot of coffee boys and strongly taste the grain/Stretch out on your blanket and hear the cyotes sing/Keep your eyes upon him, with his Gary Cooper Grin/It doesn't take much sense to see, that he was simply born to be a cowboy"

These aren't in order but its what i can remember of the song. Please help if you know what the title is or any info on about it.. Thank you

Am also looking for the lyrics and a copy of the song. Believe it was by Eddie Arnold. Starts off: "The skies are dark and gray, for a week now it's been raining every day."

The song you are looking for is titled "Cowboy". Eddy Arnold sang it in 1976 and it was a top 10 hit. It is the title song on an album he released that year. The albums title was Cowboy as well. It has never been released on CD.

RCA released the album

I own a 45 rpm copy of the song "Cowboy" by Eddie Arnold and here are the lyrics.

"Cowboy"

The skies are dark and gray
For a week now its been rainin every day
And again,this city kid
Is on the couch still tryin to rope the stray
Well he`s Crockett and He`s Custer
And he`s Peacocks right hand man
He`s tryin to tame the west
But mom don`t seem to understand
And she`s told him to get ready
Cause its for the time to bed
And now he wishes he were free
Cause he was simply born to be
A "Cowboy"

Asleep,he rides the range
On a saddle that has seen its better days
And hear,the coyotes call
They sing the sun to rest as evenin falls
Well, make a pot of coffee boys
So strong you taste the grain
Stretch out on you blanket
As he clears his throat to sing
You keep you eyes upon him
With his Gary Cooper grin
It doesn`t take much sense to see
That he was simply born to be
A "Cowboy"

This concrete city`s fenced him in
Can`t win em all,but he`ll be on his feet again
He`ll ride his fantaces till then
Johnny takes after me
He was simply born to be
A "Cowboy"

The skys are dark and gray
For a week now it`s been rainin every day
And again,this city kid
Is all tucked in and dreamin of the range
A "Cowboy"
A "Cowboy"

I hope that all the words are correct.

Another correction........"and again, this city kid" becomes "and the Kansas City kid" in both the first and last verses. I think now the words are all correct.

I was 9 or 10 when this song came out my dad loved it always would sing it especially the chorus. A couple years ago i found it on line on a 45 record. I got a guy to transfer it to the computer and burn a cd of it . For fathers day i gave it to my dad. He hadnt heard it in years. The look on his face when he heard it again was pricless.
