A minor correction: Metallica did not "jump on the heavy metal wave of the 80's." Metallica pioneered a sub-genre known as thrash metal and inspired a generation much the same way Black Sabbath did. Metallica should have been a first ballot hall of famer last year but were edged out by Gloria Gaynor. There's the sham of the rock and roll hall of fame. Most of these "nominees" can not even be considered rock and roll.

why don't they just change the name to The Popular Music Hall of Fame" or "Cleveland's Music Hall of Fame"?
That would eliminate any controversy of why non Rock & Roll artists are being nominated over REAL Rock & Roll artists. When Madonna gets in, and artists like Chubby Checker, Kiss or Bon Jovi don't, then there's something wrong with the selection process.

Go to a music/CD site online. Click "Rock" category. 99% of the time you will NOT find Madonna listed in that category. Nor Run DMC.

Rush still isn't (and now won't be) in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. What a joke!

Run DMC are rappers. Why are they considered for the Rock and Roll HOF? The only song they ever did that was remotely rock and roll was the cover of Aerosmith's Walk This Way and the rock part was performed by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry.

Correct!! Not to mention that Metallica became a multi million record selling group with no radio play and no videos on MTV until "One" was released. And how can we forget when Jethro Tull beat out Metallica for the "Heavy Metal" group of the year Grammy. No respect.

I agree 100%. It's "ROCK & ROLL" Hall of Fame. If acts like Madonna, Metallica, and Run DMC want in they should make special wings in the hall for pop music, heavy metal, and rap/hip-hop. The Hall's becoming too trivialized by letting just anyone in. What's next? Inducting Travis Tritt, Alabama, David Sanborn, Kenny G.? You've gotta have some kind of cut-off. I like my Idea earlier of special "wings" of the hall to accomodate artists that don't fit in the spirit of "Rock & Roll".

Metallica should be included, not excluded. Heavy Metal is a subgroup of rock. If Metallica should not be included, then I can't figure out who you think should be in there.

What do you expect? Didn't they "honor" Madonna into that Hall of Fame?

Somehow, I don't think you got the meaning of my post. Metallica should be in--in a heavy metal wing of the Hall of Fame. Just like Madonna would be in in the Pop Music wing, and Run DMC in the rap/hip-hop wing. If you call heavy metal a "subgroup of Rock, you also have to call Pop music a subgroup of rock as well.

I get The Stooges and kind of get metallica, although if they had any balls they would flatly reject it, but RUN-DMC??? I agree, might as well start getting disco acts in there too.

More proof, just like the grammys, it has NOTHING to do with the music anymore.
SRV and Rush

Rush and SRV should have been nominated over some of the others, Metallica included. When the likes of Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, B.B. King and Robert Cray say that Stevie Ray Vaughn was one of the best guitarist that ever lived that should make it an automatic. Rush's qualifications need no explanation.

Somehow, I don't think you get that pop is not a sub genre of rock. Rap is not a sub genre of rock.

So, you don't HAVE to call pop a subgroup of rock, because it's not.
