The people responsible for the desecration of graves need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I cannot even begin to imagine how the families feel, but they are in my prayers.

Based on the title, I thought this was going to be about gays and how they are an affront to decency.

I worked my way through college as a cemetery maintenance worker in Queens, NY, and I can't believe that a crime of this magnitude could take place undetected. The city of New York used to send inspectors out to our cemetery twice a year to ensure that the grounds were in compliance with city ordinances. The inspector would comb over every square inch of the cemetery, and even minor infractions would be subject to large fines unless ameliorated within 45-60 days.

So that naturally begs the question as to where was the city of Alsip was during all this? Why wasn't Burr Oak Cemetery subject to any kind of municipal scrutiny? Proper cemetery maintenance, after all, is a matter of public health....or should be.

Nothing about the evils legalized gambling has brought to the area?

Apparently it was the siren call of the gambling boats that drove this scheme.

This scheme and how many others ranging from tollway employees stealing bags of quarters and Cicero's mayor jetting off to sit zombie-like for hours in front of a slot machine.

And yet, the latest thoughts are to expand gambling into every bar and liquor store in Illinois?

In Illinois I believe this sort of control rests with Dan Hynes' office...who is a machine guy and above reproach...especially as he considers running for higher office.

Actually, Quinn looking double income taxes is just as shameful and an affront to decency.

Daley squirreling away millions for his Olympics is right up there, too.

In fact, the city council and the state legislature have about the same ranking.

We have soooo much opportunity for shame here in Illinois.

These people were inhuman, the lowest form of offal to be found on this earth.

That being said, where was the oversight? Did Perpetua (based in Houston, TX) expect photos of the cemetary, or just that the $$ kept on rolling in?

Illinois has basically no regulation of cemetaries, and apparently now will - Mr. Quinn? Mr. Madigan? Mr. Cullerton?

Could somebody, somewhere, somehow at the state level,
get something done and STOP THIS NONSENSE!

To all those affected:
Only God, your imam, minister, pastor, rabbi, or reverend have the comfort that you seek. The world seems to create more callous and indifferent critters (people have at least some morals).

My prayers are with the spirits of the lost and loved.

May the tortured souls of the living find comfort in knowing that this heinous crime was finally uncovered.

May you (and those poor remains of your deceased) finally find peace in your hearts and in your minds.

To the perps - there is no God nor man that can help you.

The Trib and the rest of the media have failed to tell us for days now who owns the cemetery. Who are the officers and principal shareholders of the corporation? Why aren't we being told? All we get are the names of a manager and a few grave diggers. Who was suppose to be overseeing this cemetery? Where are the cemetery corporation books? That's not open graves you smell, it's a cover up.

Wake up chumps.
