It really doesn't matter gay marriage will be dealt a significant blow when the Supreme Court rules against it. Can't happen you say? It already has we just don't know it yet. The catholic church has interviened and threatened to excommunicate the liberal catholic members of the court if they didn't vote against gay marriage. Sotamayor was the lone hold out and agreed she would do it but only if there were a Latin American pope. Like magic it happend almost overnight. Gays are out of their league if they think they can compete with the Catholic Church.

It can happen, and if it does, we will just keep bringing more and more cases from different angles until we succeed. Full legalization and federal recognition will happen, the only question is how much time and money the opposition wants to spend on a losing battle.

The Sunday morning "news" shows were very telling on how this will play out going forward.

Essentially most GOPasaurs will simply not talk about it at all. They know they can't support marriage equality for fear of losing 2/3rd of their base, but they also can't openly oppose it if they want to win a national election again. So they'll just completly ignore the issue when they can.
