Some people are meant to be read and not seen; man, he's gross looking. And to boot, he was a raving lunatic liberal who had a Kerouac beatnik obsession that was rather unconvincing. As a writer? He was incisive. His values? skewed and disturbing. Ce le vie.

RIP NORMAN MAILER
ONE OF THE GREATEST MINDS OF THE 20TH CENTURY LAID TO REST IT'S A SHAME THAT SMALL-MINDED REACTIONARY REPUBLICANS CAN'T TAKE A GREAT INTELLECTUAL FOR WHAT HE IS AND HAS TO DENEGRATE HIM |

Pax requiem, you naughty genius.

I am sad I cannot attend his funeral in person - I would like to have verified his seperation from the human race with my own two eyes.

Hey Jen - there was a good interview with him on his thoughts on God in New York Magazine a few weeks back http://nymag.com/news/features/38961/ Check it out - its pretty insightful. Although I don't agree with all he has to say - you can't deny that he was a great thinker - I often wonder now that schools do not teach or reward based on critical analysis - its more like trade school - has America lost the ability to create great thinkers ? Oh thats right we have Ann Coulter and Bill O'Riely - what was I thinking... |
zzzzzzI'm glad you are not teaching at college. |
Just FYI....Your hero Micheal Savage is Jewish. A self hating Jew I might add. You Christians have no thoughts without Jews to define them. Hence, Norman Mailer. |
It's interesting that liberals are open to hearing new thoughts and critical analysis-- as long as it agrees with them. |
How so? |
How many conservative commentators are invited to college campuses? How many tenured professors are openly conservative? Why is the left trying to destroy (conservative) talk radio? |
...intellectuals don't describe themselves with such limited terms as liberal or conservatives. They know that they are bigger then a word or label - only the insecure individuals subscribe to this sheepish mentality. |
Jim Breslin is next
And only the "intellectuals" look down their noses at the "sheep." Muct be great to be one of the elite. I also didn't get an answer as to why there is no room for conservative thought on the campus. |
There's plenty of room for conservative thought (if "thought" is what you choose to call it) on conservative, religious based neanderthal campuses around the country. |
What you are talking about is not "conservative" radio. It's hate radio. They consistently try to shove a retrograde ideology down the throats of people who are either ignorant or haven't learned to think for themselves. Those who have, see these kinds of radio talk shows for what they are, the blabber of demagogues and half-brained nitwits. |

Amen....At least he wont be around to get murders released from prison to do it all over again! He was a liberal nut job.
You're referring of course to Air America. |
I listen to them too. It's nothing but entertainment.......I don't believe much of the crap I hear on the radio....(or at church, or from door -to -door hustlers, for that matter....) |
With regards to religion being neanderthal, there's obviously those of you, Christian or Jewish, who feel a disconnect of the very values that shaped not only your heritage but the foundation of this country. Sure, the conservative radio hosts perform as entertainers but the liberal minded thinkers who spend more time denegrating America feel threatened by a Michael Savage or Bill O'Reilly because although the language can be coarse it can also be more insightful. Shock is only a component of the entertainment element. Liberal talking heads are simply not consistent enough and more contradictory in their views. America and the world are in a very impatient and apprehensive time right now. Either the politicians and talking heads articulate their views cut and dry and stop scrambling for power or else those of us who love our patriotism and sovereignty are going sound off in a language all of us can understand.

...Jesus taught love all - you don't get to choose who.. not love some, not love only those I agree with - love all, condemn none vengeance is mine. Then Christ made it perfectly clear to separate mans laws from his own - that is known as free will. Don't bring Christ into something your fundamentalist provincial form of religion has left out a long time ago. And the moral fiber has not been ripped out of this country by liberals as you may think - but rather lobbies and cooperations chasing the dollar. Citibank-Walmart-Exxon-Starbuc ks? This is the end of small business and with it the American Dream. The sad part is due to the devaluation of critical thought - the present generation will never know. |
