Today is Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan's 66th birthday. One of the most influential, and possibly under-revered members of British rock royalty, Gillan shares a similar story with a great many of his countrymen.

Yes indeed. I was there when Ian has joined and Deep Purple was touring with 'Concerto for Group and Orchestrate. California at 'Bowl" "Child in Time' debut and few of the first album - "Hush','And the Address'- and then Concerto. I was fan since the beginning and was reserved in my feelings. Not to sound over blown, it was a 'emotional experience'.

I had liked very Rod Evans, the previous vocal and Nicky Simper, the bassist.

That evening was one of the best musical dates of my life. And Gillan rebirth the band. Glover not bad either.
