Rock n Roll, did you say Blondie? Before so many other rock n roll bands, a punk act Blondie? The Hall of Shame strikes again. Neglecting so many great bands from the early rock era, classic rock bands that were so instrumental in forging the music and influencing so many acts of the future, the selection committee is a joke.

Blondie are more than punk, more than rock-n-roll;they're a true cultural force that helped to change the musical lanscape at a time when it was desperately needed. The music business was stagnating when they started out and whether "purists" want to admit it or not, they were part of the problem.Blondie helped lead the charge to make rock/pop fun again,as well as relevant. They deserve to be in the Hall of Fame as much as the Beatles or Elvis do and are far more deserving than the Eagles or any other M.O.R. bands.

Almost right, JayCee I'm one of the purists. I went to Woodstock (First one) and Watkins glen. I saw them all, except the BEATLES (not for trying.) Do-Wop? been there; psychadelic? done that. Reggae? Went to Negril wen it was just a beach. The problem with Rock was not the purists... but rather CORPORATE AMERICA making these bizzare deals with such sellouts as 'Jefferson Starship'(STARSHIP for cripes sake.) I love Rock & Roll; I welcomed the new wave, Rock needed a LAXATIVE, and besides, it was fun and GOOD. Who of the old guard was better than Elvis Costello, or Price? Yes. you can name them on one hand. Blondie had enough HEART to quit music when her old man got a heart infection that almost killed him. She is, in spite of any perceived shortcomongs by other 'purists,' a good entertainer, and I had a lot of fun over the years dancing to her reggae beats. And you are certainly right about the stagnation, much like RADIO today. NEEDED: More POP LAXATIVES! PAGING: LOU REED |

They deserve to be in the hall of fame as much as the Beatles? Congratulaions, you win my award for being the dumbest person in the history of the world. Ever. |

Before Blondie, who was there? Let's see, Ann Wilson of Heart but she had her baby sister by her side the whole time, and sex appeal wasn't really part of her agenda. Other than that, there was Janis Joplin, but she was as ugly as sin so she doesn't count. Deborah Harry was beautiful and could sing her ass off, and she did this with 5 guys backing her. This really hadn't been done before, especially with a hot blond as a lead singer. She was slutty, and cool, a bitch, and a tease, a goodess, with just a hint of sleaze, and that's pretty much the necessary ingredients needed for making a lasting rock icon, such as Deborah Harry. After Blondie there was Pat Benatar, followed by Berlin, Madonna, Garbage, and a string of others, who most have sighted Blondie as a big influence in there careers. I think she did a great job prepping us all for what followed. You can deny her worth, but if you are being honest with yourself, you'd understand what Blondie accomplished and how well deserving Blondie is for receiving the hall of fame induction. Rock Hall of Fame is OK in my book. ROCK ON.

I agree Blondie changed the landscape of popular music at the time but I wouldn't put them in the same league as the Beatles.
