From this review's title, there is an underlying hint of racism. Black cats as bad omens, indeed. Debbie Allen's career as actress, dancer, choreographer for stage and
the Academy Awards, among many other credits makes her more than "qualified" to direct a Broadway musical,
Who isn't qualifed to make these witless and uninciteful
comments about this production is the critic Matt Windman. I suggest Windman investigate Ms. Allen's credits be for discrediting her.

Matt evidently did not want to see this play, because he didn't even give it a chance. He would have you believe that being poor is synonymous with being ugly and looking younger than your age is the exception instead of being the rule. I'm not sure why Windman also things the play is set in the present unless he's confused with the adage that "what's new is old again". The only thing I will agree with him on is that the saxophone player was completely unnecessary.
