If anyone is looking for the next generation of "positive rap" groups, check out Animate Objects. They're from Chicago and are following in the footsteps of De La and Tribe. They're killing it in the midwest, so check em out at www.myspace.com/animateobjects or www.animate-objects.com .

De La Soul just might be the greatest rap group of all time...

I'd go to the Rock The Bells show just to see them.

They did good for themselves without selling out. They should be proud. And their music is timeless.

Unfortunately, most of the rap music that's produced and distributed (not just payedd on the radio) does not reflect the sound and langauage of De La Soul. And it never has!!! The foul language that you hear coming out of mouths of these young people is not a recent of new style style.

"De La Soul were 'great'"?

The best US-born rapper was and is still Michael Franti (The BeatN\i\g\s, Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Spearhead) but has never attained mainstream success because he never talks about sex, parties or thuggery. He's topical, critical, and opinionated, something not appreciated by the mainstream culture.

For those who have never heard of Franti or his groups, I suggest you spend money on his CDs rather than a tour of has-beens.

Note: I had to edit "The BeatN\i\g\s" because the censorware on this site won't allow me to print the name without the three "\". It's a name of a group, not a slur, yet it's censored. 9_9

Like De La Soul?? You should check out One Block Radius. Here's a lil info on the group.

BIOGRAPHY -
One Block Radius is an alternative hip hop group made up of Marty James (vocals, raps, production), MDA (vocals, turntables), and emcee Z-Man (a Hieroglyphics associated rapper). Both Marty James and MDA were part of the group Scapegoat Wax, and One Block Radius was formed in 2003 in part as a reaction to Marty James' dissatisfaction with the Scapegoat Wax project. OBR was an effort to get back on an independent label, regain creative control, and emphasize a group effort as opposed to just a single front-man. One Block Radius represents a unique musical direction similar to Scapegoat Wax, with music blending pop and hip-hop sensibilities, with strong melodies and pop refrains mixed with rapping and hip-hop production. Their lyrics tend to focus on partying and everyday life, avoiding the aggressive themes of gangsta rap or the more socially conscious themes of other alternative rappers.
