I went to the new “newsboys” concert last night (3/27 Redmond, WA) as a birthday present to myself, taking my 16 yr old daughter and her new boyfriend, and I am STILL REELING from the SHOCK and DISAPPOINTMENT of what I experienced!!! First of all, I feel cheated. I paid $200 to see a lead singer that did not sing, except for 2 songs. I had not heard anything about the switch to Michael Tait, and if I had I would not have come. It’s not a race thing. It’s not a fan thing. It’s a GENUINE thing. It’s the fact that Peter Furler has made the newsboys genuinely who and what they are. Without him as lead singer there can not be the newsboys sound. His powerful Australian voice, stage manner, and style of preaching IS THE HALLMARK that carried the newsboys into the hearts of so many people. Obviously Tait has a great voice too. Obviously he loves Jesus. That is not the point, and I believe he will never be able to carry the newsboys forward because of it, even though that is the hope of Furler himself. It is Furler –his voice and passion, that people lay down their money, time and passion to worship with. I am beyond disappointed, actually. It feels too much like a bait and switch. If Furler wanted and needed to stop touring then he should have finished out this tour as lead while telling everyone it was his final pass through. Be honest. Give the fans your reasons up front, along the way. The manner in which it was handled made me feel cheated. I do forgive their oversight in this and will still listen to the Furler songs, but I am disinterested in ever paying to see the band live again.
