Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe expands his range with Beat generation role

Daniel Radcliffe arrived at Sundance this week just like thousands before him, hoping the indie film fest will provide a breakout moment and launch a career... His convincing portrayal (complete with a credible accent) of the young New York poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings — complete with some passionate man-on-man sex — confirms 23-year-old Radcliffe's growing reputation as a dramatic actor. He shows considerable range as a young man who breaks free from convention to help form a radical literary movement along with Beat writers Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs, transforming himself in the process.

I chuckled when they wrote, "hoping the indie film fest will provide a breakout moment and launch a career..." Careers don't get much more laughed than his. I don't think he's really looking for huge, empty vehicles; he likes the dramatic and off-beat. It's not like he's desperate for money. He's also a very brave performer who has the talent to back that up.

Dan's a friend and I'll tell you he is straight. AND he is very gay supportive. He is comfortable with his sexuality, something you can't say about many straight boys, and is thus not threatened by the gay thing. But refusing to accept his declaration of his own sexual identity, when he is being so supportive of us and our own declarations of sexual identity, is an insult to both him and the gay community. So knock it off, Pierre! It's people like you that cause so many straight men to be hesitant about supporting us. You don't have to be gay to support gays, just as you don't need to be black to support that community.
