Calgary Serial rapist Keegan Troy Spearchief released without rehabv

Canadian Crime News, National: Sex Offences/Offenders

A convicted rapist who was the first teen in Canada sentenced as an adult under new federal legislation, was released onto Calgary streets Friday amid concerns he didn't complete any of his court-recommended rehabilitation.

Keegan Troy Spearchief, 22, was released from jail after serving four years for multiple violent sexual assaults and break and enter, prompting police to issue a warning to women.

"The public is warned that Spearchief has a history of randomly selecting homes, breaking in and sexually assaulting female residents," police said in the warning, given under a section of privacy legislation dealing with public safety.

National Parole Board documents obtained by the Herald show Spearchief did not complete the intensive therapy recommended by the judge, nor did he seek out any programs.

Fuelled by heavy drinking and rape fantasies, Spearchief randomly terrorized women in 2003 by breaking into their Forest Lawn homes and attacking them. While under 24-hour house arrest for two previous sex attacks, he raped a 17-year-old girl at knifepoint in the middle of the night when she was home alone.

Although he was 17 at the time of the attacks, Spearchief was the first youth in Canada sentenced as an adult under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Judge Sandy Park gave him four years, deemed a longer sentence that would accommodate Spearchief's rehabilitation.

But during his time behind bars, Spearchief, who stands six foot five, did not complete any therapy, including an intensive eight-month program geared toward sex offenders that was recommended by the judge, parole board documents show.

At Spearchief's sentencing, his 17-year-old victim swore the harm he'd done to her would outlive his four- year sentence. Spearchief was wearing a balaclava when his teenage victim saw him peeking in her window Sept. 4, 2003. He broke into the house through a basement window and came up the stairs after her. The teen grabbed a knife, but Spearchief overpowered her and forced her downstairs, where he raped her. The sound of her parents unlocking the front door on their way in the house scared him off.

He also broke into two homes in one day. In June 2003, he surprised a 40-year-old woman as she entered her house by repeatedly punching her in the head. Her roommates came home and found him with his pants off, foiling his attack. An hour later, Spearchief broke into another home but again was discovered by a man. His victims were chosen at random, and Spearchief admits having anger and resentment toward women, according to the parole board. Spearchief is known to become violent and more dangerous after drinking, according to police.

He was released to the Calgary area on Friday, March 7, 2008.

SPEARCHIEF is described as Aboriginal, 6’ 5” tall, 180 lbs., with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion.

Being a mother or young childern living in the areas of the previous attacks should there be things I am doing to ensure that this does not happen to my family?
Is there any way for me to find out to what area he is in now?

Unless you were directly involved in this case, no.

Your best bet is the Internet and Google.

Also lobby your Politicians for access.

Good luck, and stay safe....

Sorry, he had his chance.

This is not a human, but a sick animal.

Decent people should not have to live with the risk that he may attack them.

He will attack again, it's just a matter of time.

That type never change unless for the worst.

Forgiving is not what I'm about. God forgives, I don't.

My business is alerting people to the dangers that are out there.
