Enduring classic rockers back with more

Full story: The Morning Call

Classic rock is many tunes to many ears. A radio format. An advertising tool. A soundtrack to the '60s and '70s. Memories of playing air-guitar riffs in your dorm room, screaming a power-chord anthem in your ...

This is actually a great collection of classic rockers for Musikfest. I mean, seriously - this is awesome. Although I'll be out in the "free" tents with my beer, since I despise the Riverplace venue, but kudos to the 'Fest board for securing a great line-up this year.

Great music from back when. But when I looked at this article, I wouldn't waste my time and didn't even bother with the second page of article.

As I said before.. This is less and less a "Festival of Music" and bit more like "Woodstock".

Doesn't matter what I think. What matters is the $'s when all said and done.'Fest' goers will vote with their wallets. Not my 1st priority. But hey, that's me.

BOSTON original lead vocalist Brad Delp committed suicide last year; he was replaced by Tommy DeCarlo, a former Home Depot credit manager who impressed Scholz with his MySpace cover of ''Don't Look Back.''

Yeah, now theres a Musikfest headliner

Fogerty is the only worthwhile act of the bunch.

Delp's suicide is truly tragic - he was one of the best rock voices of all time.

Beyond Delp's vocals, though, was the incredible durability of the songs he sang. There's no reason why Boston shouldn't go on with the huge library of songs they've created. So the new singer is a flash out of nowhere - who cares? It's still great music.

Delp will be missed and it won't be anywhere near the same without him. This is more of a tribute than the real deal without him. But...still, the band that created the awesome music of Boston should get the right to perform for a loving and still intact audience. I'm glad Musikfest gave them an opportunity to visit the Valley.

Fogerty is a genius who keeps on making new great music, rather than stagnating in the past. But people still come mainly to hear his old classics.

Everyone else is a legend, too, though - wholly worthwhile of an evening's worth of time. Jethro Tull cannot be imitated, Dennis DeYoung wrote some of the best songs of the 70's and 80's and Boston is the perfect background music for a Riverplace evening. C'mon - all these acts are awesome this year.

I really think it's the best line-up at Riverplace I've seen. Totally capitalizes on the "oldies reuinited" theme of our times.

i have a doc. on the '70s group, the runaways; of course, joan jett is a lesbian. and the drummer, down on her luck, talks about how the group should re-form---as if 40 yr old runaways isn't weird. anyhow, the drummer died a year ago, from cancer; she wound up doing concrete work!

I have no issues with Joan Jett. But, in regards to the Runaways I do not know of anyone who remotely cares.

Who would want to be 25 again? If I want to go see my old idols, why shouldn't I? I think it's awesome that I have a second or third shot to see some of these bands. And the bands get rich, too! It's a win-win. Don't go if you don't like it.
