There are 11 comments on the emergingminds.org story from Feb 25, 2008, titled Cornel West Talks About the Music Industry at Morehouse College. In it, emergingminds.org reports that:

Princeton University African American Studies professor and Hidden Beach Recordings artist Cornel West told 2,500 people at the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel that while the music industry has plenty of talent, there are too many people chasing dollars instead of creative genius.

“Too many copies,” West said to the applauding audience on Monday, Feb. 18. “Too many emulators. We need creators.”

We have plenty of innovators and creators. The machine feels NO responsibility to the public to cement their exposure.

When you ask any of these executives why not, they'll give you some contrived b.s. about how the public doesn't want to hear all that "information" they just wanna be "entertained".

Basically they call the public stupid!

People need to stop going at artists and people who are simply trying to get "paid" in a recession.

The real problems are at the heads of there media outlets who dictate which art gets the most exposure!

Ok, I admit, I made some assumptions about the Morehouse Lecture Series that aren't true. I checked it, and its list of speakers is impressive.

But Cornell West is so full of shit his eyes are brown.

The man disgusts me.

Why on earth is he going to a college to talk about rap music?

That's the last thing he should be talking about.

CORNEL WEST IS ONE OF THE FEW INFLUENTIAL BLACK VOICES WHO CAN SPEAK INTELLECTUALLY ABOUT A MYRIAD OF IDEAS AND TOPICS, INCLUDING RAP MUSIC, AND NOT SOUND OUT OF TOUCH, FOOLISH OR POMPOUS. I'VE BEEN A FAN SINCE I WAS IN COLLEGE MANY YEARS AGO. THIS BROTHER IS FOR REAL. I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE SAY THEY DIDN'T LIKE MR. WEST...AND IF THEY DID, THEY DIDN'T HAVE ONE VALID POINT AS TO WHY...MAYBE IT'S THE AFRO, BUT IT SURE ISN'T HIS WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE AND HIS CONCERN FOR HIS PEOPLE.

You must not have seen the way he carried on at Tavis SOBU last year. He was whining against Obama like a little bitch stood-up for her prom.

And then there's the way he called Jesse Jackson to beat-up on Harvard when Harvard called him on the carpet for making a fool of himself with his "Danceable Education" and lack of grading rigor.

His alliance with race hustlering pimps like Jesse and Sharpton lower the bar too. And that fact that he's a spokesman for BET is as disgraceful as it gets.

Oh, and he doesn't date African American women, did you know that?

I call him the "Clown Prince of Academia," but then, I'm no fan of Michael Eric Dyson either who among other sins always sees fit to let on there's nothing wrong with transvestitism.

In other words, pal, you simply haven't been paying attention. You see the big afro and he think he's cool. He's cool, but he ain't deep.

No, Einstein, Morehouse has a school of medicine where you should donate your brain right now so the students can learn how you've been able to eat, sleep, and roll blunts with one the size of a lima bean.
