You know the American education system is broken when an illiterate lowlife like this is a full Professor at an ivy league college. What a disgrace.

Illiterate? Here is the first paragraph of West's "Democracy Matters Are Frightening in Our Time":

"A decade ago I wrote Race Matters in order to spark a candid public conversation about America’s most explosive issue and most difficult dilemma: the ways in which the vicious legacy of white supremacy contributes to the arrested development of American democracy. This book—the sequel to Race Matters—will look unflinchingly at the waning of democratic energies and practices in our present age of the American empire. There is a deeply troubling deterioration of democratic powers in America today. The rise of an ugly imperialism has been aided by an unholy alliance of the plutocratic elites and the Christian Right, and also by a massive disaffection of so many voters who see too little difference between two corrupted parties, with blacks being taken for granted by the Democrats, and with the deep disaffection of youth. The energy of the youth support for the Howard Dean campaign and avid participation in the recent anti-globalization protests are promising signs, however, of the potential to engage them."

These are not the writings of an illiterate, which is hardly surprising given his degrees from Harvard and Princeton, his authorship of several books and journal articles, and his teaching jobs at Union Theological Seminary in the City, Yale, Haverford, and Princeton. I don't agree with everything he writes and says, either, but I suspect that is his literary ability exceeds yours as well as mine.

In 2000, economist and former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers became president of Harvard. In a private meeting with West, Summers allegedly rebuked West for missing too many classes, contributing to grade inflation, neglecting serious scholarship, and spending too much time on his economically profitable projects.[24] Summers allegedly suggested that West produce an academic book befitting his professorial position. West had written several books, some of them widely cited, but his recent output consisted primarily of co-written and edited volumes. According to some reports, Summers also objected to West's production of a CD, the critically panned Sketches of My Culture, and to his political campaigning.[25] According to West's book Democracy Matters, Summers wrongly accused him of canceling classes for three straight weeks during 2000 to promote Bill Bradley's presidential campaign. West contends that he had missed one class during his tenure at Harvard "in order to give a keynote address at a Harvard-sponsored conference on AIDS." Summers also allegedly suggested that since West held the rank of Harvard University Professor and thus reported directly to the President, he should meet with Summers regularly to discuss the progress of his academic production.[26]

Most of the University professors are liberals but that's not good reason to refuse EDUCATION.

Anyway, what kind of person will call someone with a PhD as an illiterate ?

The most disgraceful moment in the American education system was when Yale gave an honorary doctorate to an illiterate lowlife scumbag.

I don't refuse education. I challenge ivy league campuses that throw pies at conservative speakers because they lack the intellect and debating skills to make a real argument. I challenge liberal schools that discriminate against veterans and asians in favor of blacks and illegals.

It depends on what discipline the doctorate is in. If he had a PhD in accounting or engineering I'd say he was intelligent. His PhD is in African Studies... which may as well be pottery.
