These awards never truly represent a fans' perspective.
The epitome of the case in point has to be 1985 when 6 of Springsteen's 10 songs reached the top 10 and darn near the same with Prince and yet Lionel Ritchie's pathetic album wins record of the year.
1979 was a very close second in the "what were they thinking" category.
