They do! I totally agree.
But, I'm not Emo in the stereotype way.
I have blond hair, blue eyes, and I dress girly and skater.
I have no group.
I'm all over the place.
LOL

People stereotype me as "emo" because of my hair,
and the way I dress.
I wear skinny jeans,
band shirts,
I shop at Hot Topic.
I don't cut.
I'm not emotional.
Although, I do get depressed oftenly.

I hate it when people use those kind of stereotypes!

Because I get depressed, doesn't mean I cut.
Because some people cry, doesn't mean they're weak.
Because some people cut, doesn't mean they're emo.
Because some people are emo doesn't mean they cut.

And I hate it when certain people on the internet label themselves as "emo" , "scene", "goth", or "punk" and start stating the fact that they 'cut'. Seriously, if someone was a emotional person, they won't go around on random sites and start advertising the fact that they're "emo" and that they "slit their wrists". When emos cut, they keep it as a secret to avoid rehabilitation, stuff like that.
Especially people who label themselves as "emo, punk, scene, and goth" just because they like the style so much. "Emo" is not a style! It's a stereotype of "emotional" and is also a music genre. Why are people so slow at that?!

Btw, I've got nothing against emos. I just hate it when people judge them.

This was just my opinion on the stereotype. So, yeah.

For your advice, you're not alone.
Many people have felt worst than you.
You should really stand up for yourself from those people who nick your stuff at school or being mean to you.
You have friends, you can get them to stand up for you.
To be honest, I've also felt the same too.
I didn't wanna tell my parents of all those bad stuff at school.
But now it's alright.
You should tell them "they're not alone",
which is one of the best advice you can give to a person who cuts.
I hope this helps :)

I apologize if that advice doesn't work.

Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut...

Emo = typical scene kid

Real emo died out in the mid 80s.
Anyone claiming to be emo is just a scene kid in disguise.

I'm emo and I told my friends about it. Now one of them wanted to get me out of this habit. I don't want to change but wonder what'll happen if I lose my friend. She's always there for me but now, I'm just lost in myself trying to find a way out and live.

So you're going to lose a friend if you don't change your stereotype? You can't let friends or any other people tell you what to do. They're your friends, not the boss of your life. It's your decision, whether you wanna convert or not. If you don't wanna convert, it's no big deal if you lose your friend, maybe you can find other friends. Everyone has a future, there is no right or wrong answer.
And if you're going to convert, then it's up to you. But the thing is, it's kind of a bad decision, it's like your friend telling you to join the crowd. If you're emo, then be emo. I don't think it's a good idea to join the crowd very quickly :/ But people covert by making their own decisions, step by step. If you want to get over it without any changes, then maybe you should talk to her about it. Give logic reasonings and tell her she's not the boss of your life and that she mustn't tell you to join any other stereotypes unless your chose to. Maybe it'll end the whole situation and you guys will be friends again :)
I may not be a skilled advice giver, but I hope this helps.

Emo aren't people lol. It's a music genre that's died out and has lead to the term being misused.
It's not a sub-culture like in gothic, hip-hop, punk, metal, rock, psychedelic etc. Like where you get goths, hip-hop/urban kids, punkers, metalheads, stoners, hippies etc respectively.

Emo (Emotive Hardcore) is a sub-genre of hardcore punk. It stemmed from the mid 80s around the Washington DC area, where bands decided that punk was becoming pretentious (or so it is claimed).
Emo is an underground music genre that was pretty short-lived. Most emo bands ended up becoming powerviolence, skramz or post-hardcore.
So it emo NOTHING to do with Warped Tour, black clothing, depression, wrist-cutting, scenecore etc.

NOT Emo:
-99% Warped Tour bands
-Hot Topic bands
-scenecore
-stuff like Black Veil Brides
-pop punk
-pop rock
-metalcore
-deathcore

ACTUAL Emo:
Real screamo aka Skramz
Powerviolence
Pg. 99
Sunny Day Real Estate
Raein
Rites of Spring
Embrace

It's not a fashion, though it's become one.
People who listen to legit emo music are not depressive.
Depressive people aren't emo.

Simple.
