Is there a way to get a recording of Begin the Beguine BEFORE Artie Shaw's recording? I'm interested in the original rhythm of the song, and a recording by Cole Porter himself, or from Jubilee, would be great.

Yes.
Porter was on a world cruise and the ship stopped at a tropical port, where he heard a local band playing a beguine number. That gave him the inspiration.
I play it in C Major.
