On Sunday, Rep. Eric Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the House, said the White House should focus instead on the economy, not on the long-simmering and divisive debate over stem cells.

"Frankly, federal funding of embryonic stem cell research can bring on embryo harvesting, perhaps even human cloning that occurs," he said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." ''We don't want that.... And certainly that is something that we ought to be talking about, but let's take care of business first. People are out of jobs."

Certainly, I want to here Obama's argument over this one, he who claims that political ideology should not be the main focus! It is exactly what he is doing. He is making an opposite approach to one thats been in place for just shy of a decade, and he is placing his Democratic name all over it. This isn't about using stem cells to better quality a person's livelihood! It's about him fufilling a campaign promise to make himself look better. What he needs to be doing is determining how each and every action that he takes is going to make the Average American's life better right now, right here. Stem cell implantation is EXTREMELY expensive and is not covered by insurance. So, in other words, no help for the government to provide millions to its study and research. There are other more pressing concerns that that money can be spent on, and the POLITICIAN up in his Big White House is only looking out for his own donkey.

And for the record, if the government regulates stem cell research like it regulates everything else, no doubt we'll end up with live action science fiction in America before the Obamanation is finished.

Ditto I am not sure we can control where our tax dollars go anymore, AIG gave money to foreign entities and now Hillary Clinton is promising money to Hamas 900 million is what I heard and not to mention Brad Pitt and Annette Benning wanting the administration to help Iran and Darfur it just keeps getting better everyday with the Obama gang

And we are concerned about Barry Bonds and A-Rod enhancing themselves when the president is going to allow tax payer money to be used to create the perfect human, I think the last guy that tried this also killed somewhere around 6 million Jews

Those of you that have offered up your small narrow minded theory or opinions of stem cell research have never had a close one dye of alzheimers or parkinson's ora number of other diseases that stem cell research may be able to help or find a cure. I think most of you are brain dead and so far there is no hope of a cure for that problem.

Yeah, science is sooo horrible. They're just murdering babies while trying to create the perfect human. First of all, inform yourselves people read some literature and i don't mean the Bible, because that's fiction. Why do people become so infuriated when tax dollars go to beneficial programs? Finding a cure for Parkinsons, Alzheimers...not a good enough reason? I wonder if you people care that our tax dollars are funding a senseless war that never should have happened in the first place.

My uncle is a double amputee do to the effects of diabetes.

Both great-grandmothers (both my dad and my mom) passed away slowly and heartbreakingly to the effects of Alzheimer's Disease.

My grandmother had a total hysterectomy at the age of 28 after having ovarian cancer.

My other grandmother had both breasts completely removed to the effects of breast cancer.

My mom's mom died of lung cancer, and her dad of asbestosis.

My pastor emeritus is paralyzed from the neck down.

I've watched people suffer from ailments that could easily be cured with embryonic stem cells. Did these people support it? No. Do they support it now? No. Do I support it now, after having watched the suffering? NO. So say something else. I dare you. Say it before you assume something else about people who have watched love ones die of terrible diseases and still, they support the protection of the embryo.

Assuming makes an azz outta you.

The fun part is how the money for research will be divided since everyone thinks this is a cure for everything. As a practical matter it will be many years before any progress is made - there has been stem cell research around the world for the past 8 years without any breakthroughs. The research universities will spend the next few years building staffs and new facilities and will do little actual work.

Adult stem cells are sometimes better to use than Embryonic stem cells.
A potential advantage of using stem cells from an adult is that the patient's own cells could be expanded in culture and then reintroduced into the patient. The use of the patient's own adult stem cells would mean that the cells would not be rejected by the immune system. This represents a significant advantage as immune rejection is a difficult problem that can only be circumvented with immunosuppressive drugs.

Embryonic stem cells from a donor introduced into a patient could cause transplant rejection. However, whether the recipient would reject donor embryonic stem cells has not been determined in human experiments.

There is a lie about stem cells that has been told and repeated incessantly. The religious leaders tell it to inflame the ignorant, and the ignorant believe without question and perpetrate violence in the name of the lie.

The lie: "Stem cell research is abortion."

Fact: Stem cells are obtained from eggs donated by women.

Fact: The women who donate eggs have no intention of becoming pregnant.

Fact: The eggs would have NEVER become babies if they were not donated.

Fact: The women's bodies would naturally dispose of the eggs if they were not donated.

To claim that any form of "abortion" is involved is to display abject ignorance and stupidity by those who believe it, and dishonesty and hatred by those who tell it.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Scorpio

Let the past stay in the past for now. Even though you may have fond memories of intense experiences, the Virgo Moon sees to it that you have virtually no desire to go there again just yet. This is your opportunity to show others what you can do in a more civilised environment. Don't try to shout down someone who is rude enough to interrupt. As unlikely as it may seem, the softest voice has the biggest chance of being heard today.
