The Democrats have been pounding away at the message that Republicans have increased the deficit by spending too much.
Well here you can see now that they want to add 44 billion in spending and tack it onto the bill that would give you a refund check. At the same time, they play dirty politics by saying it's the republicans fault you'll won't get a rebate.
There should be TWO separate debates on these TWO separate issues!
If it means saving the government 44BILLION, then so be it. I don't want a check. I'm not that stupid to fall for the democrats dirty tricks.
And to the republicans who stood up to them, BRAVO!

I do not agree with everything you say but I agree with this post, plus even if they give us a check we will be taxed on it for income anyway .

This is the same tactic the Democrats used against Bush Sr. in the early 1990's. Remember the government shutdowns which happened because Bush would not accept higher taxes in the Democratic Congresses budget? The Dems then blammed Bush for the shutdown and forced him to accept the taxes. Then they blamed him for raising taxes in the 1992 election. And guess what - it worked. So why wouldn't they try it again? I hope the Republicans have learned the lession of past and hold their ground against this bullying tactic because as they say - those who ignore the mistakes of history are doomed to repeat them.

pwilson, Are you SURE your "not that stupid"? The Republicans, who are masters at holding legislation hostage by tacking on unacceptable riders invented the tactic you suggest is exclusively a Democratic thing. When they do it, apparently you approve.
