Racist jokes no laughing matter
Puerto Ricans being dissed on television shows, movies or plays is nothing new. More than a half-century ago, Anita sang "I Iike to be in America" and referred to Puerto Rico as an "ugly island" full of tropical diseases.

Getting involved in gangs that sell drugs seems to have little to do with ethnicity and a lot to do with perceived social opportunity. Here in Toronto the population is very diverse but the distribution of cultures is much different than in America. So gang members often come from other cultural backgrounds. The common thread is poverty and often also how many generations of the family lived in the new country and how assimilated they are.
I think some racial stereotypes can be joked about in a playful, harmless manner (Margaret Cho'a accent humour about her mom, for example), but this is NOT one of those.
