Congressman "let's legalize everyone so they can vote for me" Joe Baca is full of it. It will be interesting to see if he can hold onto his district after reapportionment. My guess, with a legitimate redistricting? NOT!

A real (born here to legal citizens) American has to wait 18 years before they can vote; this should apply to all immigrants as well!

I AM NOT SAYING DONT CLOSE THE BORDERS. I AM SAYING STOP THE HATE.
Before you Scream and show Ignorance and Hate at least read the Immigration Law regarding Undocumented Immigrants.
THE UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS ARE PAYING MORE TAXES THAN YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!!
IMMIGRANTS AND TAXES:
Q:“Is it true that illegal immigrants don’t pay taxes and drain our economy?”
A: As Ben Franklin said,“Nothing is certain but death and taxes.” Like the rest of us, unauthorized immigrants pay taxes on their property and anything they buy. More than half of them have taxes taken out of their paychecks, but because our immigration system is dysfunctional, these taxes are paid under false Social Security numbers. We need a new regimen in which we know who is paying taxes and can ensure that no one is getting a free ride. The only way to do that is to pull unauthorized immigrants out of the shadows and get them on the right side of the law.
Three state-level studies have found that unauthorized immigrants pay more in taxes than they use in benefits. In Iowa, unauthorized immigrants pay an estimated $40 to $62 million in state taxes, while they and their employers contribute an additional $50 million to $77.8 million in federal, Social Security, and Medicare taxes from which they will never benefit. In Oregon, unauthorized immigrants—who are not eligible for any state benefits—pay between $134 million and $187 million in taxes each year. Finally, in Texas, the State Comptroller found that, without unauthorized residents, the gross state product in 2005 would have been $17.7 billion less.
----------
The economics of immigration, Stephen C. Goss, the chief actuary of the Social Security Administration and someone who enjoys bipartisan support for his straightforwardness, said that by 2007, the Social Security trust fund had received a net benefit of somewhere between $120 billion and $240 billion from unauthorized immigrants.
That represented an astounding 5.4 percent to 10.7 percent of the trust fund's total assets of $2.24 trillion that year. The cumulative contribution is surely higher now. Unauthorized immigrants paid a net contribution of $12 billion in 2007 alone, Goss said.
Previous estimates circulating publicly and in Congress had placed the annual contributions at roughly half of Goss's 2007 figure and listed the cumulative benefit on the order of $50 billion.
The Social Security trust fund faces a solvency crisis that would be even more pressing were it not for these payments.
Adding to the Social Security irony is that the restrictionists are mostly OLDER AND RETIRED WHITES from longtime American families. The very people, in other words, who benefit most from the Social Security payments by unauthorized immigrants.

Our country needs to enforce the immigration laws, period. We do not need to reform our immigration laws. Our constitution needs to be amended so that if you are born on american soil to illegals you will not become a citizen. You will be deemed as an illegal alien. The businesses, farmers included, should be held accountable by fines and prison for hiring illegals.Landlords should also be held accountable for giving illegals shelter. The millions of illegals in California have made a complete failure out of our public schools because their children do not speak fluent English.Secondly the welfare that their anchor babies receive is breaking us financially.Illegals come here, send money home and retire to nice Hacienda's built with American dollars after about 15 years. That's right they work for fifteen years earning american dollars and go home to Mexico and retire.I've met several people who have done just that.Meanwhile Americans are killing themselves working longer with no hope of ever retiring. Our country by allowing illegals to remain in this country are committing treason by not defending our constitution

this article is the only common sense solution available, but common sense seems to be in short supply in this country lately. The hard ass comments in these post seem to confirm this. The complainers in this country want to blame somebody for their shortcomings and mexicans are their easy targets. I am a white man and republican for every vote of my life, over 50 and what disappoints me most is that most is that most of the complainers are white and over 50. I do understand business and have had my same business for over 25 years and sucessful. All Im saying is its a damn shame common sense cant prevail here. we have a lot more problems in this country than immigration so lets get this done and over with so we can get the real problems in this country and quit picking on these poor mexicans for our own shortcoimings

"Hate," eh? What, are Americans supposed to LIKE watching their country being unlawfully infested by a bunch of third world leeches, many of whom rob, steal, pillage, rape, murder, and all while reproducing like rats? Are you nuts? Give me a break! Some things are simply intolerable for obvious reasons.

Tell Mexico to stop the hate. Americans give and give until we are broke. This invasion of illegals need to stop. The politicians are at fault. This problem started at least 30 years ago. Millions of illegals who do not assimilate but demand everything they can from us. Illegals cost tax payers more then they ever contribute. Constant lies from the propaganda machine about illegals aliens should stop. We have open are arms long enough. Illegals do nothing for this country but take take and take. You stop the lies and hate for America citizens.

Until people stop taking advantage of the laws illegals will never be accepted. If I teach my kids taking a quarter off the table thats not yours is wrong, why do you expect me to accept criminal activity?I also teach them to have pride and take care of your own, again why would I accept someone who knowingly has a baby here illegally then asks for money.USA may be a ggod looking rescue boat but do you expect it too take on 12 million uneducated illegals?Thats a small country

Illegal immigration is a crime. Catch and deport every last one of the dirtbags, and not just Mexicans. Boot out ALL illegals, and take your "studies" and stuff 'em where the sun don't shine, eh?

Both you and the "unbiased reports" that you mention are completely full of it.

1. The Average cost of birthing just one child in a U.S. hospital often exceeds the entire annual salary of the average working illegal immigrant (most do not work at all).

2. Illegal immigrant birth rates are as much as 2.5 (or more) times the U.S. citizen average.

3. You can not legitimately support yourself and/or your family here in the U.S. while working the unskilled low wage jobs that the average illegal holds (if they even bother to work at all).

4. Far too many illegals insist on bringing into the U.S. the same crime ridden and chronically dependent third world lifestyles that helped ruin their own Country of origin.

You, however, conveniently fail to admit these faults and nor do you mention the very high illegal immigrant crime rates (i.e. identity fraud and theft, drug dealing, human trafficking, etc, etc, etc).

No amount of name calling and/or hypocritical pro-illegal propaganda from the likes of you can change these facts.

Your grammar and spelling skills are far worse than that of the person you just insulted. Your grammar is, in fact, some of the worst that I've ever seen on Topix.

Oh well, maybe your social worker can arrange some remedial adult education classes for you...

Included in immigration reform needs to be a provision for GLBT tax paying Americans. Currently we are unable to sponsor our foreign born spouses.

Next time capitalize the word "english", and add an apostrophe to "dont". Then feel free to criticize another person's grammar. Now enjoy yourself in retirement-ville Florida with the other 90 year-old libs! And you can have all of our illegal aliens down there with you. Make sure you pick up all their dirty diapers at the parks and beaches!

Illegal alien border jumping thieves and their ilk take more out of our economy than their low-paying jobs ever pay into it. You're another La Raza B.S. supporter and nothing more. California alone has over $9 Billion in costs per year, due to illegal alien cockroaches. I suggest a tsunami from the state of Maine to the Southern border.

There are many ways to solve the illegal immigration problem other than by mere capitulation. At the present time, one can become a citizen by joining the U.S. armed forces, and many people have joined our armed forces for this reason. Why doesn't Mr. Baca push this alternative. To give citizenship to those who have broken the law is a slap in the face to those who are seeking citizenship by following the law. Otherwise, we are telling those persons who have joined the armed forces to obtain citizenship that they are fools.

Moreover, many illegal immigrants wish to become U.S. citizens only to make it easier to work in the U.S. while their loyalties remain with their country of origin. That is not what citizenship is about. A person should only become a citizen if he or she wishes to put their loyalty to the U.S. ahead of their loyalty to any other country.

The real solution is for the federal government to start enforcing the law, rather than treating illegal immigration as a means to bolster the ranks of the democratic party. Pass the necessary legislation to eliminate anchor babies, and follow the rest of the world in holding that the citizenship of a child born in the U.S.is the same as the citizenship of its mother

Most American citizens can tell you that it is the ENFORCEMENT system, not the immigration system that is broken. Mr. Baca is serving the interests of Latin American, not citizens of the USA. Most American citizens vigorously oppose any form of amnesty for those who are in our country illegally. As far as I can determine, when people opine that our immigration system is broken, it is because not everyone who wants to live here is permitted to do so, legally. So aliens spit on our laws, our priorities and take what they want, illegally. What is broken about our immigration system is that illegal entry and/or remaining in this country is not criminalized; instead it is a civil offense - like breaching a contract. What other kind of theft of taxpayer money is treated so lightly?
And what kind of logic rewards illegal aliens with legality if they are not SERIOUS criminals (Baca thinks a petty thief, a check kiter, a shoplifter, etc., are boons to this nation?) just because they have managed to evade authorities for years? Baca needs some lessons in what genuine American values are. We don't allow the children of thieves to keep the "loot" their parents stole. Similarly, we should not allow children whose parents stole their presence in this country to become legal. We do not punish these children, we simply treat them the same way we treat the children of domestic law-breakers. If we wanted to punish them, we would make them pay back the K-12 education and any other tax-supported benefit they received as a result of their illegal presence.
Get real, Mr. Baca! Try telling the truth about what AMERICAN citizens want, not what foreign nations want!
